IF ONE CONVERTS HIS OWN AUTO & TRUCKS, CAN ONE, USING A COMPRESSOR, OR WHATEVER, FILL HIS OWN NATURAL GAS TANKS FOR VEHICLE USE, "TAPPING" INTO HIS HOUSE LINE SUPPLY FOR THE HEATER AND WATER HEATER AND STOVE?
SIGNED, BOB SAVIDGE
The problem is that Natural gas is coming into your house measured in 'inches of water', meaning very low pressure. You need a compressor which will increase the pressure, into your tank, to as much as 3,600 psi. Not easy or cheap. Takes overnite to refill 7-10 gallon equivalent and the 'PHILL' compressor costs around $4-5000.00.
Everything can be done, it is whether it is worth doing.
Good Luck!
HI GERALD;
THANKS FOR THE INPUT! I WAS JUST BEING THE "DEVIL'S ADVOCATE," TO GET AN IDEA WHETHER THIS "DO IT YOURSELF" THING MIGHT BE A STOPPER AS FAR AS THE CURRENT GASOLINE PEOPLE MAKING A PROFIT ON NATURAL GAS IMPLEMENTATION. I CAN PICTURE UNSCRUPULOUS PEOPLE WILLING TO BY- PASS THEIR GAS METER TO GET FREE FUEL--THEY WOULD MAKE UP THE $5,000 IN 2 OR 3 YEARS, AND BE "SELF SUFFICIENT."
BOB
Of course if you use the XQF-50 instead of Phill, your car attach time is under FIVE Minutes per 15 "gallons" not over night.. The computer processor takes the place of a trained operator and makes the unit as safe and easy to operate as a gasoline station pump.. Safely and quickly filling your CNG vehicle from home vs a commercial filling station is rapidly becoming a moot point.. T Boone is doing his part by building service stations along the national highway system. You only need to be within 300 miles of a commercial station if you are going on a long trip. Other wise fill up at home just like you currently do at the neighborhood gasoline station...
Want to change the world? And tell the Arabs what they can do with their oil. Get a CNG car and refuel from home... Do I have your attention yet?? ;-)
Since you are hell bent and determined to do this (NG conversion) yourself may I suggest that IF you are going bareback on the technician installation, at LEAST have your life insurance agent come over for a visit.
There are millions of dollars spent and hundreds of lives lost in the continuous effort to make the handling of natural gas safer. And people STILL die. I am INCREDIBALY appalled at your apparent ignorance on this matter. If it is ONLY a matter of ignorance on your part than maybe you can brush up here on the particulars and get educated. Lesson # 1 DON'T F*** around with natural gas. It will KILL you, and quickly.
If it were only you to worry about I wouldn't be so concerned. I FIRMLY believe in the Darwin Awards http://www.darwinawards.com/ and you're definitely on the way to a top award. But, normally, when one of you guys get lose in the world of mechanical spit balling, the main themes are usually incredible frugality coupled with incredible ingenuity. I have a long standing Deucism for that. “When you combine incredible frugality with incredible ingenuity…someone’s gonna die.”
Don’t do this within 200 feet of the house. There goes the home fueling concept. The equipment to do this sort of thing properly (that means safely) cost money and takes training to do right. I can appreciate you not wanting to pay the freight, but now that you are made aware of the downside of what you want to do, hopefully you will abandon it. If not, they have a large supply of Darwin Awards, one with your name on it.
HELLO MR. DOUCHMAN,
I APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT ON THIS! I AM ALL FOR NATURAL GAS, HAVING FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF IT'S POWER, AS I WORKED IN THE GAS FIELDS OVER 7 YEARS, ON OCCASION WATCHING THEM WELD HIGH-PRESSURE, LIVE LINES! I DO NOT PERSONALLY WANT TO GET FREE GAS; I AM JUST WONDERING IF MANY PEOPLE WOULD NOT QUICKLY LEARN THE "HOW-TO'S" OF THIS GAME AND DEFRAUD THE INVESTING COMPANIES OF THEIR PROFITS--PERHAPS THAT IS ONE REASON WHY THE ENTRENCHED GASOLINE INTERESTS ARE NOT REAL INTERESTED? (EXCEPT FOR T-BONE).
a cooperative educational program is the solution, tie your experence to people with other required attributes. seek a solution by referring all question to leaders not smart mouthed bulloies.
You always make me laugh. I love your input, your wisdom, and especially your humor. You are right on here. The Darwn Awards are a big favorite in my house. Love the one about the two guys who did not die, but lost their manhood to reproduce, due to using bullets as fuse replacements after returning in the dark from frog hunting. You can't make that stuff up.
Keep on being the voice of reason. Someone has to do it.
Best
Kim
I understand and appreciate leanred people with a proven track record to teach willing people.
Ignorance is to be respected, stupid pitied. It appears to me the adfvisor the deuceman is inadquate and is a bully. if you do not know how to teach refer to some authorty that is teacher not a preacher.
Bob ,.The question demostrates that you are thinking of solutions to the probelm natural gas supply for automile use. My guess is the conversion kit 's instructions wuold be a channel for you thinking, Again this nothing more than a guess. I would also guess the kit would include some suggestions to natural gas suppliers. good luck and Bob post your resluts. thanks
Maybe the 'DueceMan' is trying to save your life!!! Until you at least read and UNDERSTAND NFPA 52, then you are playing with dynamite fooling around with natural gas, it is both flammable and explosive. I quit doing my own dental work years ago and found that works best for both me and the dentist.
Remember when you COMPRESS natural gas, you go from 0 to 3,600 psi and when you BURN it in a car you go from 3,600 psi to 0!
Also, spell check make your comments read better.

Gerald,
I would suggest that the vast majority of members here aren't looking to have Larry, Darryl and Darryl install a CNG conversion kit by using some type of recycled igloo container. I also don't think anyone is looking to use Larry, Curly and Moe to drill any holes in their home gas lines.
However, your comments about CNG make it sound as if it's plutonium. Yes it's combustible, but that's why we're talking about using it in combustion engines. CNG is being used world wide as a transportation fuel. CNG conversion kits are also being used world wide. Can you point out the statistics that indicate the death and destruction being caused by CNG (for transportation) and CNG conversion kits?
Also, could you please add some context to "NFPA 52?" I've googled it and it's either a new Mercedes-Benz model, a radical oil industry magazine, or the National Fire Protection Association?
If its the National Fire Protection Association, aren't they a non-governmental group that develops standards and codes that they think everyone should follow? And, for a FEE you can get a little sticker for your window so you can claim to follow their rules? Just want we need right know - to treat the rules of a private group (which often go beyond what the actual laws say) as law.
Gerald,
In reference to the NFPA and that thier rules often go beyond what the law requires. The NFPA is one of the contributors to the building code that has to do with fire safety. The building code is the minimum standard to which a building is to be constructed and maintained. I know that many of the NFPA guidelines seem like over kill to anyone with a little bit of intelligence but there are always the other side of the coin, Darwin Award reciepents.
