Conversion Now

This site is not associated with any manufacturer, but it welcomes their input.

For the Pickens Plan, and its army, to achieve their full potential should CNG conversion kits be accessible for ALL American's vehicles? Would accessible and affordable CNG conversion kits allow us to use less foreign oil, while allowing us to retain the ability to use traditional forms of fuel when we don't have access to CNG. Should we tell our legislators to support and introduce legislation that makes CNG conversion kits more accessible and affordable! Currently, the Federal EPA “certification” process for CNG conversion kits requires that each kit be certified for use on each vehicle and each model year of that vehicle. Is this appropriate? If you have insight to current CNG conversion kit technology, the justification (or lack thereof) EPA certification regulations, or the politics of these issues, please help educate us all and leave a comment or create a discussion!

Richard,
Enough about your invention, we get it. You are trying to save the world and are being ignored! Ever wonder why?

Mr. Baragona – your brother and all our youth is exactly why I invented the HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) beginning in 1973 with the PLO, oil embargos, shortages and extremism. My patent was finally issued in 1986. It breaks my heart your brother died defending our country from Middle Eastern extremist. I’m sorry three administrations and my HEV weren’t able to stop the fanaticism before Iraq. It appears we finally have an opportunity to do something after 35 years. I’m going to post something I have on my page that hopefully will help others to understand the Pickens Plan is about Middle Eastern Extremist and the killing of our youth and not about the cost of gasoline. God Bless you and your family.

MY MISSION STATEMENT

I added this to My Page as a reminder why I got involved beginning 1973 - 1978. My feelings remain the same.
In the comments below “The current activity in the Middle East may cause the death of thousands of our American youth.” was Iraq (1). We lost hundreds in Iraq (1) beginning Aug 2, 1990 in the Gulf War only nine months after this letter was written and subsequently thousands in 911 and Iraq (2). We do not want an Iran (1).

Re: IRS Information Document Request Letter dated 9/13/90

Dear Ms. Mahdee:

No Liter Research and Development is a company with a Mission Statement that is trying to create a better environment for the world that will help allow its inhabitants to live without fear of death from carcinogens because of current technology. It is an objective of the company to help clean the planet's air and help stop global warming. Another objective of the company is to develop technology that will lower America's trade deficit and allow the sale of product to the world that is manufactured in America that is less dependent on fossil fuels; therefore, making the world less dependent on the Middle East for fossil fuels. It is another objective of the company to help prevent what is now happening in the Middle East. The current activity in the Middle East may cause the death of thousands of our American youth. It is yet another objective of the company to develop technology that will help lower the cost to the American people of product that is now costly because of current technology.

I wish to add that my company had an office audit by the IRS for tax years 1982, 1983, and 1984 and it was determined that the company was run in a businesslike manner.

Very sincerely yours,

Richard Barnard

The HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) can use many alternative energies. It is the most flexible automobile available. It’s not being built to use the following with the exception of gasoline/diesel but it can be.

HEV – flex fuel,
HEV – hydrogen (water)
HEV – dirty hydrogen (NG)
HEV – NG
HEV – LNG
HEV – LPG
HEV - CNG
HEV - H2
HEV – E85
HEV – gasoline – not an alternative energy; however it is available. HEV = less consumption
HEV – diesel – not an alternative energy; however it is available. HEV = less consumption
HEV – solar? Future
HEV – plasma? Future
HEV – etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

The HEV – (plug in) can be used with any of the above. If the fuel is combustible it can be used. What the HEV allows is less consumption of any fuel used. None of the alternative energy fuels above are available in quantity. Demand is the problem if we want to wean ourselves off Middle Eastern oil.

The HEV is an EV a hybrid EV. Many people don’t think of it as being an electric vehicle.

The hybrid can be built to be as fast and sturdy as any sports car, SUV or Truck manufactured today. Eaton is currently building a truck for Fed X and others.

I do agree that economically, coal is the only real option.

Clean coal, nuclear (with recycling), solar, and wind all cost too much to be replacements for oil and natural gas.

The bad new with regular coal, is that we're forced to make a choice between pollution/global warming, and foreign oil independence.

If these were our only two options, I would choose coal.

Having lost a brother in Iraq, I feel more strongly about oil independence that I do about pollution and global warming....

The question is......."Is there a third option"?

At $150/barrel maybe there were choices. Now that we're back to $40, I don't think there is a 3rd choice.
Dave baragona Comment by Dave baragona on December 19, 2008 at 10:34am
David,

I agree.

If we simply convert to NG for transportation and we don't reduce the use of NG for electrical generation, we will only serve to use up our NG reserves more quickly.

The real key is developing the alternative energy solutions to reduce/eliminate the use of NG for the generation of electricty. THEN AND ONLY THEN can we think about converting to NG for transportation.

If we are unable to reduce NG consumption for the generation of electricty, the whole plan falls apart........

CNG conversions are all well and good but where is the NG to come from.

Dave, The "Red Rooster" is one brand of kit. There are variable settings for the injection so one could boost to, say a 50-50 mix. The engine gets a heck of a boost in HP as from what I hear. CNGchat forum said it is more like a drag truck. It would likely raise the temp in the engine too. A standard set up is for 25% This is probably the safe standard. The increase at this proportion is 10-20 HP depending on the engine manufacturer.

The engine starts on diesel, runs in dual fuel and if you run out of CNG (or propane) the engine will still operate as it was originally designed on diesel.

The tank size can be 25% of the diesel tank obviously.

Curt,
Money, pure an simple. It costs the auto industry little to produce a vehicle that can run on E85, but CNG costs them more! Further, at this point in time our legislators do not have the will or care to push for CNG conversions or vehicles! We all need to make our legislators hear us! Write and call them this very important question.
