windmills are they cost effective?

It is a known fact that there is enough wind in the united states to help break our dependence on foreign oil, but is the cost of constructing these windmills going to be so substantial that it would actually cost less to use oil? In other words, is it going to be cheaper to use wind power to harness the same amount of energy as opposed to buying the oil to produce the energy.

Well this website has finally given me the opportunity to learn more about the issues and possible solutions. So thats why I'm here but I also am looking to learn what the would be best major in college would be for this field. I'm thinking engineering but that includes quite a few areas.

Can anyone shed some light on this??

Thank you for starting this site. I am very interested in seeing how alternative energy ideas develop across the country. Please include me on your updates and notices. I wish you much success. We are listed on the Pickens Plan as Mariah Power.
I invite you to join our group for updates on the Windspire and
other alternative energy items and ideas.

Join us at Carbon Neutral as we move forward with our plans to Flip a City.

Vacant Buildings - Holyoke

Download the pdf (4 MB) and get a sense of where we have to start.

Then watch us grow and implement a plan to install grid tied solar pv systems on all rooftops, and most importantly, bring an entire City back to life as Carbon Free as possible.

Young people have to take the lead on this! Older people are resisting change, and many believe that they still don't have to change.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for taking the lead and creating a group. This is exactly what we are going to need to sustain this campaign and realize its goals.

My name's Brett and I'm the Director of Online Organizing for PickensPlan. I want to be as helpful as possible in making this group work for you, and coordinating with the rest of the campaign.

Here's a link to a discussion on tips for a successful group:

That's a great place to start. Also, feel free to send me a message at Brett@PickensPlan.com at any time. Let me know what I can do to help you out in the coming days and weeks. I look forward to working with you.

Brett.

I think that the situation will get much worse before it gets better, even if we do start making changes, but I would feel a little better about suffering with hope that those changes will eventually improve the situation. If we change nothing, we accomplish nothing, and our situation will continue to decline, without hope.

I have a feeling that like many things, wind turbines will probably be expensive to produce initially, but then the cost will go down.

I have heard that in many other countries it's not uncommon for a neighborhood to pool their money together for one and whatever energy isn't used by those residents is sold to the electric company, and that money is put towards maintaining it. I would support that, but I have a feeling that some neighborhood associations would think that they are an eye-sore and try to have them banned.
