Okay funseekers. I've finally managed to make my way back to Lamar with detours through Tacoma, WA and the entire Idaho Treasure Valley.
I saw 'some' wind farms on my way there and back. I saw NO wind farms situated to take advantage of the catabatic flow from the Cascades or any of the Rocky Mountain ranges. Why might that be?
I saw on the order of two dozen trucks hauling pylon sections for wind turbines. I saw three or four hauling complete nacelles and even a couple of trucks hauling blades. Every one of these components was labeled with a great big placard saying, "Made in Chenjou, China"
There are literally tens of thousands of square feet of commercial space available up and down the wind corridor. Is it honestly cheaper to buy completed composite assemblies from China rather than roll our own in the US? Can anybody explain to me why it's more economical to ship in the composite pieces through the Gulf of Mexico? (I'm assuming the components coming up through Colorado can in-country through Mobile, New Orleans or Galveston)
Another thing. The orchards between the Rockies and the Coast. A huge number of them have fans installed to circulate warm air in the event of early cold snaps and freezes. Somebody explain to me why these humungous fans/windmills aren't being retrofitted with generators to dump power onto the grid when they're not actively being used to work the orchard.
We are the United States of America. We put men on the moon in less than a decade just because we could. WTF happened to our nation?
My notes and recorder are in a bit of a shambles so I'm a few days out from being able to discuss specific locations or systems that I passed. Regardless, we need to get the Smart-People(tm) working on the necessary equipment to take advantage of the resources available. I am not a bigot, I am probably one of the least racist people you will ever meet. I am not, however, tolerant of the People's Republic of China getting the money and technological practice that should be going to the US' Great Plains states.
As always, YMMV but this needs to be addressed. Anybody who can put me in touch with actual people in actual positions of responsibility will be greatly appreciated. I can't afford a lot of long distance travel and phone calls but what I can afford; I will be happy to put to use getting this project moving.
It doesn't matter who wins the election. Nope, not a bit. Whichever candidate becomes our next President will have their plate completely full of international and military matters. They've given great lip service to the alternative energy needs of our Nation. It's time to just do it. Make it happen. Get 'er done. Make it so. Generate desired outcomes. WTF ever you want to call it.
