Streetlights in the State... Wow!!!

There was a news story last night on ch 30 about Portland and the fee for streetlights... $160/month/light... wow! Even though that includes maintenance and bulbs, and the energy to run it...

To think about all that light pollution and wasted energy kept me up all night thinking about it.

We've become soft. Folks think they have a right to an illuminated nighttime. Why? Cars have headlights. Perhaps dark roads will make those cars that go screaming past my house at 2:AM **SLOW DOWN**; saving more fuel ;^)

Connecticut has a renewable energy source and it's the ever growing trash mountain on Route 91. We have a local company StarTech that has technology to cleanly burn any toxic waste except nuclear via Plasma Conversion. The byproduct is Hydrogen which can be used for power generation. I can't understand why the State or the Fed does not support this company and set an example for the rest of the world? The one thing the US has a never ending supply of is garbage.

The beginning stages of cooperation and planning are taking place. If we keep communicating like this an unstoppable surge will happen and this thing will take on a life of it's own.

I am new here. Can someone give me information on work being done or scoped for Renewable Energies in CT, I live in Bridgeport and researching these areas of technology as PhD topics. I will offer any help possible.

I drove by one of those wind farms in California and they look impressive. Here in CT, I think on-demand water heating and heat pumps are the way to go, they would reduce costs for the consumer. If we want to make a difference, we need to find ways to show oil and gas companies that we CHOSE to use their products. Right now they know we need them and the companies, politicians and other countries can do what they want with prices, and we have no choice but to pay them. I am for any ideas that promote independence.

Hi all, I think this plan would need to modified for CT to be able to help out. Specifically I think all our abandoned mills and intact dams could provide some local relief for electricity needs.

Also the rail idea I think is a good one. I used to commute daily when I lived in California (land of the cars) by rail and it was nice. But I lived and worked near two stations, so it was easy to walk to/from the stations.

Wow there's 30 people in CT already signed up who are wanting to do something about the craziness of our oil-energy crisis!

So is anyone having one of those House Parties to help get the word out about the Pickens Plan?

Which Counties is everyone located in?
I'm located in Hartford County, our Capital County doesn't seem to be such a good place for those free standing wind windmills but with all of the apartment buildings those small rooftop ones as seen on Living With Ed & Solar Panels on the many many corparate buildings & factories & schools is definately something I've thought would be easily doable & would make a quick impact

Wouldn't it be great if they'd just get the railways that used to connect all of the major cities hooked back up so that commuting into Hartford & New Britian & other CT Cities would be much easier than trying to connect & riding all day & transferring problems if one wanted to not use a car to shop or work in one city area & go to another

Is anyone planning to hold a local meeting where we can get to meet each other & introduce the Pickens Plan to the Bigger Communities?
Is anyone using their local Public Access Channel to help educate their neighbors about how to save energy - I know in Hartford they offer free classes on how to do the shows for residents to make programming & I'm guessing that other towns would do the same?

Hello Everyone,
I would love to see the development and implementation of CNG fueling stations in CT! CNG is something we can do now to off set demand for oil in our automobiles.

Greetings Friends in Connectucut,
We all need to thank Mr. Pickens for explaining the energy problem that we as a nation face. Earlier it was one Group (users) pointing fingers at the other Group (suppliers) and vice versa. The problem is real. It was magnified to some extent, in recent times, by speculators. But, the truth is we are importing more oil every year and producing less. We are sending billions of dollars overseas.

I like Mr. Pickens Plan but I think it needs to be supplemented by other plans. It by itself will not get us to Energy Independence. It will just buy us more time. For this reason I have posted a petition for Energy Independence .

Please (a) sign the Petition and (b) forward it to your friends. United we can achieve Energy Independence and avoid this constant financial bleeding of our great nation.
Thanks.

Regards and Best wishes,

I too would like to see our state legislators insist that all new construction include solar hot water heaters or the natural gas water tube that only heats the water you use (can't remember what it's called). My son cut his electric bill by $100 with that little tube. Either way, it cuts the water heating bill and helps the environment. God intended our relationship to the planet to be a stewardship, not ownership.
