…the federal and state governments to act upon the Pickens Plan when individuals and local government won’t?
On the national level, The Plan is picking up traction and the politicians are starting to listen.
Unfortunately, with oil now below $100 per barrel there is a distinct possibility that support will wane, especially after the election.
I believe now is the time to start acting locally.
There is a need for the population to start seeing concrete, documentable, encouraging actions that support the Pickens Plan.
There are several things that could help. These are a few off the top of my head:
Public petitions/requests supporting the purchase of hybrid/CNG vehicles as existing vehicles are slated for replacement by local schools and governments.
Public debates on local implementation of wind generation to provide up to 5% of local electricity demand.
Encourage local municipalities to go to four-day work weeks (as is feasible) to minimize the expenditure of funds on energy.
Encourage schoolboards to provide funding for implementation of alternative energy generation (solar, wind etc) on school property. Push for local bond issues and local initiatives to fund such projects. These will expose younger generations to the possibilities and give the general population a "dog in the fight", while reducing the long term operational costs.
Any other ideas?
