We are pushing congress to act on HR 1835 and Senate 1408. The bills promote the use of domestic natural gas as a transportation fuel.
Below is a letter written by Congressmen Simspon. Feel free to contact our Idaho congressional leaders to push these bills into law and begin the process of reducing our oil imports!

Mr. Ryan Jones
Dear Ryan:
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1835, the New Alternative
Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2009. I appreciate
hearing from you and having the opportunity to respond.
As you may know, Representative Dan Boren (D-OK) introduced H.R. 1835
on April 1, 2009. This legislation would amend the Internal Revenue
Code to encourage alternative energy investments and job creation.
Currently H.R. 1835 is under consideration by the House Committee on
Ways and Means.
I am a strong proponent of using clean alternative fuels such as
propane, natural gas, ethanol, and methanol. I believe that
compressed natural gas (CNG) should be a part of any comprehensive
plan to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil. Right now
natural gas is used to create baseload energy, which ensures that
power continues to be available when alternative energy sources like
wind and solar are unavailable. I believe that in the future it would
be much more efficient to use nuclear energy, biofuels, and other
baseload alternative energy sources to provide that energy and use CNG
as automobile fuel. In 2007, natural gas, which is an environmentally
attractive energy source, provided about 22 percent of our nation’s
energy requirements, and the U.S. has a steady domestic supply. You
can be confident that I will keep your thoughts in mind should H.R.
1835 come before me on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me about this
issue. As your representative in Congress, it is important to me to
know your thoughts and opinions about issues affecting our nation
today. I also encourage you to visit my website,
www.house.gov/simpson, to sign up for my e-newsletter and to read more
about my views on a variety of issues.
Sincerely,
Mike Simpson
Member of Congress
