PickensPlan

From "Letter to Senators":
Also, if we switch just 350,000 of the 6.5 million heavy trucks running on the nation's Interstate Highways to domestic natural gas from imported diesel, we could cut our oil imports by over five percent. In December alone that would have kept nearly $1 billion from being shipped off shore.

If 350K trucks switched to Natural Gas, where are they going to 'fill up'? Switching America's truck fleet, as well as hundreds of thousands of automobiles, from diesel or gas to Natural Gas is a really jolly idea. BUT where is the end of the supply line? Where am I or they going to fill up?

In order for this part of the Pickens Plan to work, the Oil Companies are going to have to install Natural Gas supplys at every truck stop in the nation, and, ultimatly, at every gas station in the nation. The 'key' to this part of the Plan is to get the Oil Companies to start Natural Gas installations immediatly, and not worry about their short term 'Sales' for awhile. I don't think they will go along with that without a mandate from Congress.

What we have here is a perfect 'Catch-22'. There's no interest to convert the truck fleet to Natural Gas because there is no supply for it, and there is no demand for supply since few trucks can burn Natural Gas.

Part of the natural gas infastructure I have been asked about in my promotion of the Pickens Plan is whether we support or oppose LNG supertankers coming into Astoria, Then the gas would be piped to the 'pipeline grid' via a 100' wide right away clearcut through farm and forest land including the Mt Hood Wilderness Area. If we have so much natural gas, I'm not sure why we would want to import any anyway but this gas pipeline infastructure creates problems. If there are oil and gas lies all over anyway, it would make sense to use those already established corridors but those proposing the LNG port want to cut fresh lines. Probably cheaper.
I would like to have someone (I e-mailed Boone the question but heard nothing) clarify a position on this prickly issue for Oregonians.
