Lets talk about the Natural Gas Act of 2009

* Posted by PickensPlan on November 12, 2009 at 2:28pm in Natural Gas Discussion Group

Believe it or not, we are already in the middle of November!

Be sure to ask your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators to support The Natural Gas Act of 2009, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Click here to support the NAT GAS Act of 2009.

Information is key when it comes to Natural Gas. Especially if we want to offset imported diesel to power heavy trucks.

You can read all about Natural Gas by clicking here. Information on the importance of getting Natural Gas Vehicles rolling in the United States can be found by clicking here.

Feel free to share your thoughts!

Pyrolysis demo shows opportunity
DD Bixby - Thursday, August 20, 2009
The News-Review

LEMOLO LAKE – A few drops of iodine-colored liquid, smelling faintly like a fish smoker, plunked into a clear canning jar on Wednesday near Lemolo Lake.

One man in the crowd jockeying to see the fast pyrolysis product said it looked like 10-weight oil.

Bingo.

Agencies involved in bringing the demonstrations to Douglas County hope the bio-oil produced from quickly burning and then cooling wood feedstock in pyrolysis will help reduce domestic dependency on foreign oil, among other applications.

Douglas County and the U.S. Forest Service's Umpqua National Forest sponsored Wednesday's event, supported by many other groups looking into the technology as a way of creating jobs and restoring overgrown, unmarketable forest underbrush to healthy levels.

“I don't know if this is going to work,” said Cliff Dils, forest supervisor for UNF. “Is there something real here? Is there a financial piece that will pencil out … we're trying this to find out what is and is not real.”

Pyrolysis is not a new process, as presenters explained to the roughly 90 people who attended Wednesday, some hailing from Washington, D.C., and other states outside Oregon. The process can take any biomass and thermally decompose it in the absence of oxygen, producing oil, char and gas.

Mike Cloughesy of the Oregon Forest Resources Institute characterized using woody biomass to produce energy products as a triple win for the forests, economy and in reaching renewable energy goals.

Tuesday's fast pyrolysis demonstration will be repeated on a larger scale Saturday in Glide at the old mill site off Bug Farm Road. The tour begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Ford Community Meeting Room of the Douglas County Library, 1409 N.E. Diamond Lake Boulevard, before leaving for the Glide site.
Another demonstration is scheduled in Merlin on Aug. 26.
Though buses are already full, people interested in driving themselves out to the site and bringing along their own lunches are welcome at the Glide and Merlin demonstrations, organizers said.

Invitation to join the NW Renewable Energy Group
I have started a Regional group, welcoming comments, ideas, and suggestions for Renewable Energy in the NW Region. Including states from the Pacific, Cascade and Rocky Mountain areas. I realize that some of my Pickens Plan friends are outside this region, but you are always welcome to join and add your thoughts to the discussion. We should be looking at best available sources of energy in our region, and ways to improve the power grid to transfer energy from region to region as it is needed.

Now, all we have to do ----is push the truck convertion to natural gas. At that point, we will have a good start on cutting down on imported oil.

I have sent my letters and made my phone calls to my representatives. This "Stimulus Plan" seems to me to be flying through Congress way too fast. I sure wish these guys would slow down and make sure they're making good choices. I'm still one of those that believes bad businesses should FAIL! Period.
We should be helping our citizens first.

Hi Fred,

An interesting approach. Your idea covers a much broader set of issues than my focus on the Pickens Plan and its linkage with the much larger so-called Economic Stimulus Bill, to which I object.

I believe our country will be best served by weighing each of these issues separately on their own merits. This seems like the correct approach for the Pickens Plan and the issues raised in your thoughtful "Plan To Save America."

One of my objections to HR-1, is that because so many different programs and projects are lumped together in 647 pages, and all of this is being rushed through Congress at breakneck speed, we haven't had sufficient time to either dissect or digest sufficiently the worth of any of them. Consequently, it is my inclination to put a stop to the whole process and start over at a pace that allows us to understand what we are being asked to do in the name of saving America.

When the government voted for the bank bailout, I was jumping up and down yelling about how flawed the idea was. It was my contention that giving the money to the banks was a poor idea because it did not address the issue of mortgage foreclosure, which is how they got in trouble in the first place.

My plan was simple; give vouchers to all Americans with foreclosure notices. These vouchers would be used to get the banks to renegotiate lower interest mortgages with lower monthly payments. The banks will still get the money they need to open up credit, but they would not have to go into the real estate brokerage business to sell off the properties that people lost and will lose with the poorly written and administered bailout.

Now I do agree with you Mr. Sigurdson, that this stimulus bill will do nothing to stimulate the economy or put people back to work. I feel the same way about an auto industry bailout, which does little to address the fundamental issue, which is US auto makers cannot sell vehicles that nobody wants to buy.

My plan was to invest in auto makers that have good common sense business plans to move forward with electric drive hybrids like the Volt, but instead of giving that money to the auto makers, subsidize the cost of these new electric hybrids so that millions of Americans can afford to buy them. That way, the auto makers become solvent and profitable by making and selling vehicles that are desirable and affordable.

The document attached is my "Plan To Save America" and I would like everyone to read it and send it to their local, state, and federal representatives. I feel that President Obama would also take this plan to the American people if we can get him to read it also.

The Stimulus Bill isn't a stimulus bill. Neither is it green or truly supportive of alternative energy. It fails to accomplish the goals of energy independence as supported by most thinking Americans and it fails to achieve many of the other goals advocated here.

Rather the so-called Stimulus package is a giant pork-laden bill that piles on 1 trillion dollars of national debt that even our grandchildren won't be able to pay. The result of this boondoggle bill is higher taxes, increased government regulation and a socialized, national economy.

The greatest casualty of this stimulus bill, if it passes, which I'm hoping it won't will be our individual freedom. I support energy independence for America, but not at the cost of our freedom and liberty.

Some 200 years ago, Patrick Henry said it best, "Give me liberty, or give me death!"

I have written to all of our DC reps, Defazio, Smith, and Wyden. I even strongly "warned" Smith of the implications of voting in favor of the bailout. Defazio and Wyden voted "No" and Smith voted "Yes" and now Smith is watching the festivities from home and not from his his senatorial seat.
