Now is the time to renew our committment to sustainable energy independance. I've been frustrated by the apathy of many of my friends, and short-sightedness of local political associates, but am "energized" by some really exciting developments in education, and a veterans outreach, with which I am involved.

Profiting from new rural energy opportunities
Learn how at the 2010 Harvesting Clean Energy Conference

Learn from a host of experts gathered in one place at the Harvesting Clean Energy Conference – February 7-9, 2010, in Kennewick, WA at the Three Rivers Convention Center.

* How can farmers, ranchers, food processors and rural communities prosper as new technologies come to market?
* Where are your best opportunities in wind power, solar, geothermal, small hydro, biomass or biofuels, and to upgrade to energy-efficient equipment?
* What financing, technical expertise, and partners are available to help?

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, registration for the conference is remarkably affordable. Farmers, ranchers and other private individuals can register early (by Jan. 4th) for just $90, professionals for $140.

Register on line at www.harvestcleanenergy/conference, or call Dana Colwell at 253-445-4575 for more information.

Hope to see you there!

Lets talk about the Natural Gas Act of 2009

* Posted by PickensPlan on November 12, 2009 at 2:28pm in Natural Gas Discussion Group

Believe it or not, we are already in the middle of November!

Be sure to ask your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators to support The ..., and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Click here to support the NAT GAS Act of 2009.

Information is key when it comes to Natural Gas. Especially if we want to offset imported diesel to power heavy trucks.

You can read all about Natural Gas by clicking here. Information on the importance of getting Natural Gas Vehicles rolling in the United States can be found by clicking here.

Feel free to share your thoughts!

Passing along a message from the Sierra Club...

Here in Washington, we have a great opportunity to become the first state in the nation to go completely coal free. We need your help to make this happen.

Washington's only coal plant is also our biggest polluter. The TransAlta coal plant near Mount Rainier emits more greenhouse gases, poisonous mercury and Rainier-harming nitrogen oxide than any other polluter in the state of Washington. The National Parks Department has said that this plant harms more national parks and protected areas than any other coal plant in the nation.

Take action now to stop this pollution.

Governor Gregoire's administration recently made a pollution deal with the TransAlta coal plant which public interest groups say does not do enough to protect public health or our environment. The Governor's office is currently taking public comments on this proposed deal.

Governor Gregoire's administration needs to hear your voice: tell s...

Thanks,

Sarah Rasmussen

P.S. Comments are due by November 6. Pass this email on to your friends so they can join you in taking action!

Call or write your Senators and Representatives today and ask them to support the WECHAR bill. The use of biochar can reduce water drain from invasive weeds, builds soil fertility with microbial growth, carbon is sequestered in the soil, and the pyrolysis process can also produce biofuel and syngas.

Support WECHAR bill to promote development of biochar.

Solar Works In Seattle:
See how your neighbors are harnessing solar energy!

Northwest SEED has teamed up with Solar Washington and Seattle City Light to coordinate the annual Seattle Solar Tour October 3rd, 2009. The tour provides Seattlites an opportunity to see how their local neighbors and businesses are making solar energy work.

The self-guided tours allow visitors to drive by or visit more than 30 homes and businesses that use solar energy systems. Many of these sites will have a resident/owner or solar installer on hand to discuss their experience and answer questions.

A number of Seattle Green Power Projects, projects funded by Seattle City Light's innovative "Green Power" program, are also included as “drive-by” sites. These projects include the Ballard Library, Meridian Park Elementary School, the Seattle Aquarium and many others of note.

Visitors are encouraged to start in various neighborhoods including Queen Anne-Magnolia, North Seattle, Shoreline, South Seattle, and West Seattle.

Print a tour map, and begin your Solar Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For site information and to download a map, visit http://www.solarwashington.org/tour.

Those interested in joining others to take in the solar sites via bicycle can do so via the North Seattle Solar Bike Tour, organized by Sustainable Greenlake. Just check the North Seattle tour map to find the 10am bike tour kickoff site.

In addition to displaying solar electric and solar hot water systems at work, the Seattle Solar Tour will also feature energy-saving techniques and sustainability through building design, the use of green materials, and electric cars. The Tour also provides helpful, real-world examples of costs and how to save money with federal and state incentives.

The Seattle event is part of the National Solar Tour organized by The American Solar Energy Society (ASES). In its 14th year, the event is expected to draw up to 150,000 people, participating across Washington State, and in over 40 states across the country. Not in Seattle? Visit www.ases.org to find a solar tour near you!

WA District-06:

August may be vacation time for many people, but our reliance on foreign oil didn’t take any time off.

In August alone we imported 355 million barrels of oil and sent $25.2 billion overseas – the most spent on foreign oil out of any month this year.

We are digging ourselves deeper into a h*** every day and our economy and security are suffering.

Have you contacted your Members of Congress about the NAT GAS Act yet? If not, click here to send them an email.

Congress is currently focused on the health care debate and that will continue to dominate Washington’s attention in the coming weeks. But our time is coming and the situation continues to be dire.

Click here to email your Members of Congress about the NAT GAS Act today.

We are proceeding with our solid support for the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1835 and S. 1408) making its way through the U.S. House and Senate. In the House, H.R. 1835 has more than 80 bi-partisan co-sponsors. In the Senate the NAT GAS Act is also supported by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

We need to stay engaged, focused and active. Click here to email your Representative and Senators today.
