Energy Educators

We are a group of Technology, Science and Math teachers who are dedicated to educating high school students in Alternative and Renewable Energy sources and applications as well as efficient energy management techniques. All are welcome!

The Schhool Year is underway....

Well we are all off and running I am sure at full speed. We realize that there is a fundamental shift taking place in education and we are trying to push Kentucky's Technical Education Program in the right direction. There are a lot of people looking for help and for information. We have already had one meeting working out curriculum and career pathways and it seems to be growing. I will directly be involved from a few different perspectives.
The pilot schools are all moving forward and I hope to provide regular updates for all members to read about. Renewable is Doable........but we have to jump in and do it..... take action and stop the talking about what to do. Enthusiasm is contagious when people see some results.
This week we will begin work on tying our schools hallway lighting load to our solar power system. What are you doing? Let us know.......

Thanks for starting the site!
Until now, I've been a high scool chemistry and physics/physics with technology teacher. Currently I am starting a biomanufacturing program in conjunction with our local community college. I've been able to go on two different Think! Energy Super Tours sponsored by the National Energy Foundation and some Utah sponsors, and they've been very informative in terms of energy production resources in my state.
I'm happy to be part of this group. There is an energy education link on my pickens plan blog. It is just a collection of possible resources I've come across- they may be on interest to some of you.

Had to check again..great high school age...tell them they do not have to settle for taking a trip to Iran for their senior trip, like I did when I graduated..(Vietnam).we need about 100,000 trained right now, and they can earn more than a doctor does, after a few years in the industry, if that turns them on.

Great: Thanks for caring. After-all it is about the kids, isn't it?

So let's start with Conservation 101. Also my spelling and English may not be up to stuff, and my passion makes my
fingers move with what Dr. King called, "The Urgency Of Now"

But I trust the information I am about to share...will be worth
those other shortfalls...Because your connect with the kids
is worth it weight in gold. These will be the ones that really
make the difference. Please before we go any further, start
your Kids For Conservation and Renewables Group Site...they need
to be a part of it. Montier the messages so that you can approve
and/or tone down messages you feel are not positive or do not
add to the learning. Because I'm going to tell it like it is.
If you'd like we'll continue...

Lesson One. In energy conservation or solar, wind, bio or what
have you, It's more cost-effective to save a therm or a watt than to generate one. That being the fact, no conversation or exploration into any renewable energy education, plan or
project, should start until we've looked at the actual cost, (all)
investment or possible savings of the plan... Now you can restate it anyway you like...That's It. Think about it and run it by your students...See if it makes sense...Through conservation we
can create NEGAWATTS, units of energy saved because we did
not have to fire a coal or gas-fired, bio polluting turbine, because
some informed person or business took conservation measures.

Let's tell Washington to blame it on the, Beverly Hill Billy's ! They drilled it all and let's get going ! Forgot to tell the educators something just in case they haven't heard as it relates to NCLB.US Court of Appeals for the 6th district. "The federal government can not require a state or a school district,"to spend funds or incur any costs not paid under this act." "Fails to provide clear notice of the states obligation to incur additional costs to comply with the acts requirements." R. Guy Cole Jr. Okay, back to CNN and keeping up with this election and we'll check in later ! Obama is on Energy Independence and so is McCain ! What is their percentage spent on solutions in the plan ? T. Boone Pickin's wants to sit down with Obama and McCain's team. He told Larry King on CNN last night ,"let's get in the plane and go to Washington tonight." Save your fuel ,cause the democrats left for vacation.

Hello Energy Independence and National Security ! More nuclear with global warming and the earth quakes ? Let's research ! How has global warming changed the temperatures of the ocean ? The Ikata Nuclear Power Plant , a preasurized water reactor that has no cooling tower, but cools by direct exchange with the ocean ? The largest single block of ice in the Arctic, the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf, had been around for 3,000 years before it started cracking in 2000. It's now breaking into pieces. 75% chance our polar ice caps will melt within five years. Congress open up our US wind corridors ! What do you guys think about that PL 107-110 law ? I'm for go HOUSSE and higly effective ! 100 % behind revisions of SBE policies to reflect changes in initial and continuing licensure requirements. Support and instructional feedback is critical. End the mandates and bubble that 00000000000000 ! I've been following election 08 until the sun comes up engaged and it's been enlightening,no doubt. We need to get moving fast on this Energy Independence and National Security ! Count me in 100% on support of o carbon electricty and what treasures do you seek at sea ? More solar and wind ya see ! Roosevelt had a grizzle bear and we have the Polar Bear Roar ! $500 billion to get moving and 300 billion in savings plus on imports and that's just the start of all these exciting changes.Educationally, what do you think about more reinforcement on diversity and humanity in our globally changing world for solutions toward peace, unity and understanding .Today you are the color of a rainbow and playing my heart card on it ! BS Earlychildhood Education certified k-3.1982. Returned to education after years of corporate America. It's been an experience but not crazy about this NCLB. Looking foward to making a difference and sharing ideas for solutions and discussions. My generation isn't interested in heading to the pump to grease in and converting an engine smelling like a french fry. Where are our commericals with a polar bear in a solar car ? Zoom ! Poor o'l polar bears out there sitting on a melting slice of ice ! Visualize ! Their holding United States Flags and saying,"Have They Figured It Out Yet?" By the way,Iran hasn't signed to suspend enrichment and reprocessing. Watch CNN's Extreme Challeges for a reality check ! Who's growing sugar cane and no sweat,we'll go poop to methane. Go T. Boone Pickin's ! wecansolveit.org is also another web site that's excellent for innovations for the nation. Thanks and Carpe Diem !

Just joined today. I am excited about this whole concept and plan. I want to mostly listen first to learn. I am a science, math, and computer teacher. I will be reading your posts for awhile until I learn enough to join in with the discussion.

Great Idea!
Wonderful Group too.
I would suggest each of you join the West Texas Wind Energy Consortium group - and hit their site often for educational info and data for classroom use.

There is also an excellent Technical College in West Texas - who is giving scholarships to students who want to work in the wind industry. TSTC/ West Texas - Sweetwater Campus. They have their own million dollar Turbine- they train the students on. These scholarships are funded by the wind companies also - so there are usually excellent jobs - awaiting the students upon graduation.

You can find out about this and our situation in Sweetwater - by visiting weather.com / forecast earth / Wildcatting the Wind.

I am proud to join your group. If I can help in anyway - just let me know. Reb - in Sweetwater.

Hello Group!
I'm a home schooling mom of 6 children; 5 of whom are actually schooling. My youngest at 4 only thinks he's ready. I have a six year old daughter, 8 year old son, 11 year old daughter, 15 year old son, 20 year old son who is Down Syndrome. He's slow but steady in his learning. We use the Robinson Curriculum which focuses mainly on the 3 r's: Reading, Writing, and 'Rithmetic. The basic idea of this curriculum is to teach children to teach themselves. My children have progressed by leaps and bounds since beginning this curriculum about a year ago. The Robinson Curriculum does have a website if anyone is interested in Googeling.

You might think I'm only here because of the kids. Partly true. I, myself, am also in need of education. How can I teach unless I be taught? And I'm at square one....so....where do I start?

Thanks for letting me join your group. I'm not far away---in Nashville. I'm a high school resource teacher and I intend to have my classes go green. I started a group you are welcome to join called Teachers for Pickens Plan. I'm interested in sharing internet sites, lesson plans, and contact information that will help me teach about alternative energy to my students. Please stop by if you are interested. Thanks!
Cheers,
Torri

I like this group - It appears this team is focused on training the technical experts in this feild.

As a Social Studies teacher I interact with students from multiple angles on renewables - Micro/Macro economics, Social implications values and attitudes, and governmental regulation and political in-fighting.

I know this group is more technical but I am willing to provide input whenever needed.

I teach Advanced Placement World History to international students from India, China, basically everywhere including dissidents from Iran.

We bring in historic-global trade issues that become debates that pertain to the exact issues of today - mainly OIL!
