Hello group, I am currently reading a book called "hot, flat, and crowded" by Thomas Friedman. I highly recommend this book to all. It is an eye opener and mind opening discussion about what we are all concerned with here on Pickens Plan. Thomas Friedman is a two times Pulitzer prize winning author. This is absolutely the best book I've read on energy, the climate, and other global concerns we have right now.

Working with “Big Oil” and avoiding the petroleum trap

For the most part, I believe that existing regulation on elements such as price-fixing and anti-trust behavior should go a long way to preventing this. It will be very difficult to monopolize the renewable sources that aren't grown on a farm such as the sun, wind, geothermal and wave technologies. I expect plenty of competition at home and abroad to try and control the intellectual property and manufacturing of these sectors. This is all the more reason we really need to focus here. While I expect it will be very difficult to keep the manufacturing on U.S. soil due to our high labor costs (relative to "Chindia") and our standard of living that depends on high income (by world standards), we should put laser focus on being the innovator and holder of IP rights. There is no reason why licensing fees should not flow into our coffers for many years to come.

I do believe that oil companies are hostage (to a great degree) to the existing foreign suppliers and their cartels. Regarding the control of natural gas supplies in the U.S. and not falling into the same trap domestically that we find ourselves in from foreign oil, it may be wise to take a closer look at the way Federal leases of natural gas supplies are structured. Through the careful delivery and monitoring of these public natural gas supply contracts, we should be able to avoid that pitfall. I would suggest keeping the costs of these leases high and routing that money back into renewables. While I understand that natural gas is a superior domestic alternative to petroleum, it IS a hydrocarbon fuel of finite supply. At best, it will run out eventually. At worst, it will breed a whole new version of the same problem as other nations begin to copy us and burn natural gas instead. This only delays the problem, creates potential new conflicts over natural gas supplies in the future and moves us toward a Venus-like atmosphere… albeit more slowly…

As far as how the engagements with the existing petroleum entities are structured and “who gets what”, I am confident that market forces and deal making by intelligent motivated parties will sort the details of these arrangements effectively.

Mr. Russ H. Robinson: great points on geothermal, an important energy source overlooked as a viable option. Great points on geothermal as part of solutions.
Mr. Michael Shaw Kendall: we hope duty is going well! Thanks for adding Geothermal to Wind, Solar, Hydro, Coop, Treasport all excellent energies for US Savings Bonds issues. Buy bonds at banks, US Treasury Direct or both?
Great ideas: Clean Energy-US Energy Independence Bonds good investments.

Hello group, I had duty yesterday. I added the Geothermal category.

I notice that the 'mission statement' at the top of the page (next to the scroll) DOES NOT have GEOTHERMAL!
Here on Hawaii Island we have 165 Mwe of potential geothermal generation (95% confidence - USGS) and more than 2200Mwe (50% cofidence - USGS).
Developing this capacity, and coupling it with Hydrogen producing plants (utilizing water from the Pacific Ocean) would allow us to run
1. the tug boats that bring our food and building materials etc.

2.. The trucks that move the container w/ the food. . .

3. Hydrogen fueled hybrid busses and cars that move the people. .

4. Replace oil in the oil fired electric generating plants we now have.

GEOTHERMAL from HI Island) is not the ultimate solution, but it's a bridge like CNG is in the Pickens Plan for the main land.

So please add GEOTHERMAL to this bond program!

I do sincerely hope that we are not disappointed and short-sightedness
and greed win once again. Spiking the price now will only hasten and
strengthen the move to global clean energy policy and innovation.

It seems they've painted themselves into a corner. Minimum budgets were drawn based on continuing high oil prices that can't be sustained.

The practices of Corporate America do not support their pronouncements of “In God we Trust”!
Rather they shout in one form or another ‘IN GROWTH WE TRUST’

Growth is only possible with affordable and abundant fuel (energy).

Energy is no longer affordable!

The US has 4% of the worlds population, uses 25% of the worlds oil.
To do that it must out bid 20% of the worlds population. So in 1968 oil sold for 1.00 $/Bbl. By 2008 that has risen to 140$/Bbl.!!

We can no longer afford the overhead to grow our economy.

Therefore, it’s beginning to shrink, and with it our living standard.

In 2000 Scientific American published the fact that the worlds per capita consumption of oil has been falling since 1978.

Today the world consumes nearly 4 Bbls. for every 1 Bbl. of ‘new oil’ discovered.

We must convert to a ‘home produced‘, sustainable energy economy which we can afford.

To date, the only viable plan to make this transition is the PICKENS PLAN.

I live in Hawaii where the Polynesians have a proverb:
The canoe is and island,
And,
The island is a canoe.

It’s time to give the Navigator the Pickens Plan - pick up a paddle and ‘dig deep’.
