Jack,
As always THANKS! You are a true friend on PickensPlan and I am so grateful for the support. I contacted the state director for 4H and they support California Energy Independence Savings Bonds. 4H in CA has two main objectives right now, water conservation and renewable energy. Best Regards, Mike

Mike...I just sent this eMail and snail mail to follow:

Ronald W. Daniels
Energy Policy Coordinator
Office of Governor's Energy Advisor
324 South State Street
Salt Lake City, UT 84111

Mr. Daniels / Governor Huntsman

In your recent reply to Michael Shawn Kendall, ETC USN, regarding his concept for Energy Savings Bonds you said…

“As time goes on we may be called upon for an innovative idea to generate resources for energy independence projects. When that happens we will bring up your idea and hopefully will be able to give you credit for generating the idea. Once again, thank you for your idea and in addition, thank you for spending your time in uniform as a member of our Armed Forces. Governor Huntsman and all of us appreciate your courage and commitment to our national goals.”

I must admit that as one of thousands of supporters for Kendall’s Energy Bond concept, your reply was simultaneously encouraging and perplexing. It was encouraging for your willingness to review this sensible and easy to accomplish concept…and perplexing because of your comment above. We believe that If there was a time for “innovative ideas to generate resources for energy independence projects” that time was 35 years ago during the 1973 OPEC embargo; which had Americans waiting on line for hours to buy a few gallons of gas. To propose that the time is still not here is disheartening and confusing beyond description to those of us who waited on those lines; and understood perhaps for the first time that our lives were not in our own control.

Since that time we have engaged in three wars in the Middle East; arguably connected to oil and our lack of government policy, direction and imperative to achieve our independence from the supply of this resource, from those who do not share common interests with Americans who provide a large share of the wealth they enjoy. Two of these wars continue at great expense to the lives of our children who have been tasked with fighting it. At this writing 4260 deaths in Iraq, 667 in Afghanistan, 31,000 wounded and 1.3 million collateral deaths in country. Do we believe that’s enough? And we haven’t mentioned the consequences to the environment, the economy, and the quality of life and safety of our children and the health of our planet!

If now is not the right time for…innovative ideas to generate resources for energy independence projects…we are left to wonder…when will be a better time? At my age, I’m wondering for the first time…if we’ll run out of time.

Kendall’s Energy Bond idea is a traditional American solution on a silver platter. He’s handing it to you. Take it!

This will engage our youth in some very direct ways that provide some life skills of saving money, community involvement, renewable energy in their future and others. Mike K.

Mike
Very exciting. Educating youth is an important focus. I believe you should add a bond to the collection...E Bonds...to support early education K-12. Along with the ROUND-UP theory for fund raising...school budgets could be supported to provide this initiative in core curriculum.

Keep us posted with the results of your meetings.

In God We Trust - More Than A Motto?

In God We Trust: The Motto
One of the first found references of the motto “In God We Trust” is heard in the U.S. National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. The song was written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 and later adopted as the national anthem. In the last stanza Key writes a variation of the phrase: “...And this be our motto: In God is our trust. And the Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” The words were shortened to In God We Trust and first applied to U.S. coins in 1864.

In God We Trust: The History
The U. S. Department of Treasury states “the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins.

From Treasury Department records, it appears that the first such appeal came in a letter dated November 13, 1861. It was written to Secretary Chase by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania. As a result, Secretary Chase instructed James Pollock, Director of the Mint at Philadelphia, to prepare a motto, in a letter dated November 20, 1861:

Dear Sir: No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins. You will cause a device to be prepared without unnecessary delay with a motto expressing in the fewest and tersest words possible this national recognition. It was found that the Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837, prescribed the mottoes and devices that should be placed upon the coins of the United States.”

Pollock suggested "Our Trust Is In God," "Our God And Our Country," "God And Our Country," and "God Our Trust." Chase picked "In God We Trust" to be used on some of the government's coins. The first time "In God We Trust" appeared on our coins was in 1864 on the new two cent coin, and by 1909 it was included on most the other coins. During the height of the cold war, on July 11, 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Public Law 140 making it mandatory that all coinage and paper currency display the motto.

In God We Trust: The Foundation
American history demonstrates repeatedly that the nation was founded on Christian principles and its founding fathers wished to acknowledge that fact all over Washington D.C. buildings, in official documents, and historical speeches. Less than a hundred years after its Declaration of Independence, In God We Trust was proclaimed on its coins. America is a free nation, and freedom of religion is still guaranteed in the Constitution’s First Amendment.

President Thomas Jefferson wrote, "The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time" and asked ‘Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are of God?’"

The Bible says:

"It is better to trust the LORD than to put confidence in man" (Psalm 118:8).
"He has put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God; many shall see it, and fear and will trust in the LORD" (Psalm 40:3, NKJV).

"It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works" (Psalm 73:28 NKJV).

"The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe" (Proverbs 29:25 NKJV).

Hello Group, I have some exciting progress today. I have two seperate discussions that I have started within this group. One is for California State Energy Independence Savings Bonds. The other is for Texas State Energy Independence Savings Bonds. I have focused more recently with California as I have a meeting scheduled tomorrow with Assemblyman Chuck DeVore tomorrow of California. I have also been in contact with the California State Director for the 4H club for kids, the state treasurer office, and the state office for renewable energy. The most exciting progress is with the state director for 4H. They are focusing on Science, Engineering, and Technology. In the discussion with the state director he stated they have two main focuses right now and that is renewable energy and water conservation. He supports the initiative but they will not administer it. This will engage our youth in some very direct ways that provide some life skills of saving money, community involvement, renewable energy in their future and others. I will keep you updated in the groups. I am also in the process of contacting the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Best Regards,
Mike Kendall
