Hey everyone;
I guess I am too late to get my input into the discussion sent to President Elect Obama. Story of my life. A day late and a dollar short.Lots of things I would like to mention after having read the imput here. First of all I did not support Obama and voted for a third party candidate but when we lose an election in this country we accept the results and try to support the guy that won. I believe he is trying to get legitamate imput and hope that he will use it to do what the middle of the country wants him to do.I also believe that he is going about the problem absolutely backwards. The solution is not the government. Government is the problem.
The government refuses to control our southern border so that big business can get cheap labor and the democrats get more votes. When those people need health care they show up at the ER at local hospitals and the ER's are required to provide services for free. At our local hospital one illegal came in with a heart attack and it cost $154,000. to treat him. The hospital received nothing and I presume had to pass that cost on to the rest of us that do have the ability to pay. Is Obama going to secure the border? Is Obama going to pay for his Care?
Medicare and medicaid pay less than the cost of care. This is passed on to those of us with the ability to pay. When this is not possible the services are withdrawn and the recipient is left to fend for themselves or get more expensive care when it becomes life threatening. As an example, in my state medicaid pays a dentist about $7.00 total to fill a tooth. The filling material by itself costs more than this. So dentist do not accept meicaid patients.The recipient lives with the pain and his tooth finally becomes infected. He then shows up at the ER and gets antibiotics and pain killers at a cost that would cover getting 20 teeth fixed. And he still has the rotten tooth. Over time the rest of his teeth get rotten and he gets really infected and it goes into his sinuses. At this point he goes back to the ER and is admitted to the hospital. After several days on antibiotics he has oral surgery and spends several more days recovering. The cost of his care would have paid for a thousand teeth being filled. Then medicaid pays only a portion of the bill and the remaining cost are passed on to people that have the ability to pay. It is like having to pay a secret tax that no one wants to talk about. Is Obama going to resolve this problem?
I hate what I am about to do but it has to be done to get a real look at the problems. I am going to stand up for the insurance companies. If the government paid their full costs and kept illegals out of the country then the bills that the insurance companies received would be much less and reflect the actual cost, not cost plus the government secret tax. If this were to occur then the insurance companies could afford to pay the bills without argueing and still make a reasonable profit. Do you think that the insurance companies don't know their being screwed by the government? If I can figure it out so can they and no one likes being taken advantage of.
Hospitals? Sure they charge the paying people a lot. If they want to stay in business they have to as they are subsidizing the government.
Health care is not a right. Nothing that has to be paid for is.Ask the people in Zimbabwe if health care,or clean water, or food is a right. They will have a different opinion I'm sure. When you make something a right all you are doing is a wealth transfer from people that have to people that do not.It is not a right and it is socialism if you try to make it so. -

I agree - basically though I try to deal with the reality I am given - and the government is bound and determined to shove universal healthcare down our throats - by golly - I'm going to have my say about it.
I'm with most people in that everyone should pay their own way as much as they can...but there will always be those who cannot and need assistance - unfortunately those programs are milked by those who merely THINK they are due a free ride and weasel, lie, and manipulate the system in order to get something for nothing. I HATE THAT!
Have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what secret government tax you think Insurance companies are paying but frankly - if anyone is going to make millions off my health - I'd rather it be those with my life IN THEIR HANDS, not the ones with their hands in my pockets! Insurance companies have sold the American people a slew of propaganda of twisted information and a warped bill of goods for the purpose of making more money than God, if possible. Make money - make a profit - but don't cheat, steal and LIE in order to do it. Try selling me a good product for a reasonable price - and not lieing about costs and inflation when I know better. They have created a false representation of the cost and profit in healthcare and expect us to all lie down and take it! -

I'm sorry that I was not clear on the secret tax. It is the one that we all have to pay when the government does not pay the actual cost of healthcare in medicare and medicaid. For example if something costs the hospital $10 and they bill it out at $15 the government only pays $3 then the rest of us have to pay the $7 when we get our bills or the hospital goes broke. Every consumer now subsidizes the government for healthcare and doesn't usually know it. That subsidy is a secret tax.
So the hospitals now bill that $10 item out at $150 hoping that they get the $15 that they wanted in the first place.In effect the government makes the providers inflate the costs.Yes they lie cheat and steal. They have to. -

Bob - I am going to keep this simple. You hurt my feelings.
I know my topic is not about energy. As Bill says below - we have taken this platform and tried to broaden it to hopefully cover a wide variety of issues BECAUSE - we (or at least my impression was that..) are trying to build a base for a strong third party alternative to the current system of government that has lead to not only an ENERGY CRISIS but and Economic, Educational, and yes, healthcare crisis.
You won't see me butting in on too many of the Energy discussions because I don't know anything about alternative Energy solutions, so I read all I can and try to learn as much as I can from these guys - because they are a fabulous, eye-opening, resource on energy.
I have suggested that we construct a "Party" website for the very reason that I think newcomers like you may be confused by the direction of some of our discussions as they may not be directly related to Energy. You might try reading some of the earlier discussions - such as the PLANK discussions and then you can better understand why I started this and the newer, related, discussion. -
