If for some reason or the other we can not accomplish Mr. Pickens Plan with the new congress and senate in the first 100 days after they assemble in 09, I would like to be ready with another movement that will enable us to make our own changes after the 2010 elections. We are here for a common cause that is worth fighting for and I believe will bond us together. Our economy in in shambles, our environment is threatened, all because of oil, big banks, big business and their congressional ties.

Join with me, lets be prepared to raise up and be heard and back up our words with action.

Our great nation has to become energy independent or many of us will suffer, economically stable or many of us will suffer, environmentally stable or many of us will suffer and die.
T. Boone Pickens has started this snow ball effect in the energy sector of our lives and I applaud him, and I whole-heartedly support him and his project. I have seen this snow ball of suggestions turn into an avalanche of hopes and dreams for many of you and me.

When in the course of events and with what has conspired in the past weeks, months, years with the economy and environment we must include these Efforts with energy if we would survive. I have said in other discussions on this forum, and I proudly say again, I am a nobody from the middle of nowhere. I am a husband, a father, a carpenter, a businessman. I have tried like so many of you to sway my congressman, woman, and government to work for we the people, and use the power we have bestowed upon them, truthfully, clearly, righteously, with honor for we the people. As one we are nothing to them. As many joined together in a common cause we are a powerful force to be recognized and have voice that will be heard
The failure of our two party political system to lead, protect, defend, and secure this great country is why I take pen in hand and try to set right the wrong our government has conspired with.
Therefore I create this group with the fervent hope that we the people can band together, and with justice for all improve on the words penned below. Feel free to voice your opinion, add to or subtract from the pledge. T. Boone we support you, will you support, help and guide us.
Our forefathers started an avalanche in their day, I have seen the support for our legacy sway. Please let this be our time, to this end I pray.
This pledge is taken from the greatest document ever penned “The Declaration of Independence of The United States of America.” I in my feeble and humble attempt have reworded this great document to reflect our times. Please read, reconstruct, add to or change, but do not criticize, I am very thin skinned, lets discuss energy, lets discuss the economy, lets discuss the environment, we are all in this together. If change is what they want, change is what we will give them because I am tired of waiting for them to change.

We the people of the United States of America in order to form a more perfect government and stop the insanity and greed of our elected officials and the ability of big money to influence said officials have bonded together to form the Energy, Economical, and Environmental Party with and in the Pickens Plan.

It is the right, privilege, honor, and duty of each member of our great country to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, and To right the wrongs beset upon them by the presently elected two party political system.

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for the people to oppose these political bandits and the corruption to which they have become connected, and to re-establish the integrity and honor of the powers of the office bestowed by their fellow man, and the respect of the opinions of the people and that mankind requires that they should adhere to the will of the people when elected.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are suffer-able, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. They have worded their campaign election laws as to hinder a 3rd parties equal participation.

They have sold their office to the highest bidder to better themselves.
They have altered the American economy to benefit themselves and others.
They have allowed our great country to become dependent on foreign countries to better themselves and others.
They have failed to protect our borders to benefit themselves and others.
They have governed with special interest and are governed by special interest to benefit themselves and others.
They have squandered the power given to them by the majority.
They have abandon the American labor force
They have written tax laws with loop-holes for the wealthy to benefit themselves and others.
They have acted in a manner unbecoming the office they hold.
They have let the tort system operate unabated to benefit themselves and others
They have protected their offices from the American people to their benefit
They have ruled with fear and hatred to suppress their fellow man

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated silence. A politician whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Criminal, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

We have warned them from time to time for their lack of governing and corruption. We have reminded them of the circumstances of their corruption. We have appealed to their since of justice with no avail. We must therefore set the record straight and fine it necessary to denounce them as a reprehensive of the people and endeavor to remove from your seat in the great halls of our government and hold them accountable for their actions.

We, therefore as the people of the United States of America in general assembly appealing to the good people of each state and district for the morality, goodness, and decency of our intentions, and by the authority of the good people of these United States, solemnly declare that if elected we will serve the will of the people we represent. We absolve all allegiance with those who would unlawfully profit from our reward granted by the people. Having been elected by the people, we establish alliances and support this declaration, and with firm reliance of the people pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred Honor

This is the heart and soul of the ENERGY PARTY and the people of the United States of America.
Past elections, past promises of change, past disappointments of promised change have brought us together to plan ahead of disappointments this time.

This is not an attempt to find a presidential candidate at all because history shows us when a 3rd party aims for the White House they fail and we take two or three steps back and stumble to the ground becoming comical fodder for the media. This is to encourage people to run for congress as a 3rd party candidate in 2010

Yes Kevin, I've worked with composite materials 8 hours a day, five days a week, at several points in my career. Have you? My approach to engineering has always been hands-on. Composite fabrication today is a far cry from the open-mold, styrene-stinking shops of the past. With closed-mold, resin transfer methods employed, it's just another medium-skilled job, not a "sweat shop"' as you suggest. Every fabrication process has its safety and comfort issues, and they are all manageable.

You can't just put an inline 4 or six cylinder engine from a junkyard in a stressed, structural role, either, as you suggest. A block not designed specifically to handle structural loads will suffer cylinder deformation, which causes poor ring sealing, combustion gas blowby, oil contamination, rapid piston wear, etc.

I suggest you actually build your design and evaluate its performance. I'm BUILDING mine, with NO government funding. The finished, drivable vehicle should prove its value or worthlessness. Doing hypothetical designs in CAD is certainly a start, but it's still where the rubber meats the road that counts.

The real point I think we should be making though, rather than arguing about which approach is better, should be that the Energy Party has the potential to change things on a national scale. But people involved need to DO SOMETHING, not just complain, blame and posture. Why not try to recruit someone who is familiar with playing the Political Action Committee game, put together a non-profit business plan, and start raising funds to make something happen. How about funding a no-political-interest-or-hidden-agenda think tank. It could be a centralized clearing house for what's REALLY, currently possible, with all of the hype, marketing bull and hyperbole stripped away. Work towards setting up a foundation that could and WOULD fund worthwhile R&D from non-entrenched sources? Build demonstration projects that lead the way by EXAMPLE. With the power of the internet to disseminate information instantly, a group that had DEMONSTRABLE solutions could have a lot of clout as far as moving the government in the right direction. The way it is, they have no clue. But we need a "we can do this" attitude, rather than the "someone should do this" attitude that seems to prevail.

Not to knock composite materials, but have you ever worked with them, 8 hrs a day, for weeks on end? I would prefer to keep these types of practices to 3' dia., preformed, bolt on shapes or smaller. It is a real tendancey to create the future sweat shops here. At least with steel / Aluminum, if parts of it gets stuck under your skin, you can remove it easier / cleaner.

I already posted my designs for the three wheel hybrid (see below). It is built with very little fabrication, and the primary structural support is from a single 4" structural steel tube along the center of the drive train (connected to the structural involvement of the in line 4 / 6 engine), driving the front wheel drive assembly (also from junk yard). This lets the rear wheel being able to be converted to electric drive when parts/ money become available, (even as simply as a single 12 V relay to a 5 HP "helper motor" for the main "multi fuel"? salvaged drive engine. Pneumatic drive also an option here.

The operator compartment is a little cramped for two people, but will fit, and will detach (shear bolts / connections) in a high G impact for better survivability of the occupants. Survivability is better enhanced with the placement of the "POD" on the 'ditch' side of the engine mass.

Add a laptop for processing starlight and infrared (FLIR) for better night driving / security / cost, etc.. and even if the ground transport goes south, you can use the equipment in a nice bass boat / other vehicles see also :

Lets build them all out of wood then when we run out of oil we can burn them to heat our homes. HA HA. didn't say that to make anyone mad, it just sounded funny to me when i thought of it.

Larry, you are right, I have figured out that government rebate programs only help those who have the extra money to spend to get the rebates. Oh well, it's my own fault for being impatient and trading in from one car to another without getting them paid off. Just glad I'm not one who spent more than I could afford on a home loan, at least my car will be paid off in a few years, not a few decades.

I love your "outside the box" thinking on materials and re-inventing technology. Let's build an amphibious wooden car/boat! Why use fiberglass and plastic when wood is renewable and readily available?

To take this to its logical conclusion, rather than using wood for frame members, the organically-derived fiber composite materials really need to be utilized in a stressed-skin, or unitized body configuration. I've done extensive design, repair and modification to these structures, and their strength to weight ratio is the best obtainable. Wood is no longer used for high performance aircraft...though it's light enough to fly, it's far from ideal. The mass of a surface vehicle is very important, as a significant part of it's energy consumption is involved in acceleration. Less mass = less energy required.

There has been a good deal of research already done, as you point out, on developing composite materials from renewable sources. There are soy-derived resin matrix systems coming, and several organic fiber reinforcements are already available. As far as a cheap, readily available reinforcement fiber goes though, it's hard to beat glass. After all, it's basically sand. It's not fossil-carbon derived, and it's plentiful.

The polymers you mention as encasing the natural reinforcement fibers ARE in fact, for the most part, fossil-carbon derived, and are not as water-proof as you would imagine. Polyester resin is hygroscopic, and epoxy, if even slightly damaged, allows incursion of moisture that will quickly rot and render useless organic reinforcements. I've seen this repeatedly on early glass-skinned, balsa core aircraft.

The vehicle in the picture is my own design, (go to my page for more information, or see my group: CNG as Sexy) currently in the prototype development stage, and utilizes state of the art, aircraft derived structural and aerodynamic principles. 100mpg on CNG is attainable because of very low mass and clean aerodynamics. I'm very interested in pursuing the availability of renewable materials wherever possible, but another approach is to make a long-life structure that, rather than being thrown away and melted down, as is current practice, can be easily refitted with reconditioned or upgraded mechanical systems as the technology evolves. If wood was too heavy for terrestrial vehicles, they could never have made airplanes from it, and still do.
These renewable natural fibers can be grown with great energy efficiency and positive environmental effects in the form of carbon sequestration and oxygen production.
Hemp fiber composites are already stronger, cheaper and more durable than steel by weight. This has already been proven under a federal grant to convert a wood fiber composites manufacturing line in the Pacific Northwest to hemp fiber.
These natural fibers will not corrode, and will not rot when kept dry, encased in polymers. So these autos will have a much longer serviceable life.
They can be laid up mechanically, or by hand, making for a wider range of viable economies of scale in the manufacturing process from one-offs to millions of units per year.
Carbon fiber is made from charring petroleum-based polymers, so is not renewable, is very energy intensive, and is highly destructive to the environment, plus neither the cost, nor the weight savings, is necessary for a production auto.
