UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA - The Foundation for the GATOR NATION

UF is a major, public, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. The state's oldest, largest and most comprehensive university, Florida is among the nation's most academically diverse public universities. Florida has a long history of established programs in international education, research and service. It is one of only 17 public, land-grant universities that belongs to the Association of American Universities.

History
In 1853, the state-funded East Florida Seminary took over the Kingsbury Academy in Ocala. The seminary moved to Gainesville in the 1860s and later was consolidated with the state's land-grant Florida Agricultural College, then in Lake City. In 1905, by legislative action, the college became a university and was moved to Gainesville. Classes first met with 102 students on the present site on Sept. 26, 1906. UF officially opened its doors to women in 1947. With more than 46,000 students, Florida is now one of the five largest universities in the nation.

Facilities
Florida has a 2,000-acre campus and more than 900 buildings (including 170 with classrooms and laboratories). The northeast corner of campus is listed as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. The UF residence halls have a total capacity of some 7,000 students and the five family housing villages house more than 2,200 married and graduate students.

UF's extensive capital improvement program has resulted in facilities ideal for 21st century research including the McKnight Brain Institute, the new Health Professions, Nursing and P******* Building, the Genetics and Cancer Research Center now being built, and the Proton-beam Therapy Center that will be located in Jacksonville. Overall, the university's current facilities have a book value of more than $1 billion and a replacement value of $2 billion.

One other advantage of Natural Gas is in ground source heat pump systems for HVAC.  Natural gas is used to produce the Polyethylene pipe used for the ground loop.  So using a geothermal (ground source) heat pump system for heating and cooling you save 50-70 percent of energy plus the ground loop is made of natural gas and not crude oil.  Another good use of natural gas. Polyethylene pipe is the same pipe used for delivery of natural gas to homes...just a different color.International Ground Source Heat Pump Association

The secret story. Start with insulation around your home or business then add a ground source heat pump and save 50% or more on energy cost then add solar panels or wind turbine. When you add solar panels or a wind turbine then you only need half as many to achieve 100% energy independence. Solar panels can be added one at a time as you can afford it. You have from now till 2016 to get a 30% tax credit on geothermal heat pumps. Which means almost 1/3 of the cost of installation will be a tax credit. 1/3 the cost pays for installing the ground loop which should last for 50 plus years and you will save 50% or more energy cost.

Before installing solar panels or a windturbine in your home or business you should install a ground source or geothermal heat pump to save 50-70% of your electric energy. By saving 50-70% of your electric energy you only have to put in half as many solar panels of half the size of the windturbine to get 100% energy savings. A tax credit of 30% is available to install a Geothermal Heat Pump System. I just had one installed in a new home I am building. I took pictures and video of the complete installation. You can find the videos on Pickens Plan.

The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation has funded a $500 scholarship based on the Pickens Plan. The scholarship deadline is in April and it is administered by using an online quiz that measures what participants know about the Pickens plan. It is the easiest way to compete for scholarship money and a great way to get students to learn about the Pickens Plan.
