Folks, I’m so excited to announce Pickens U is finally here! Please feel free to contact me for details.

Pickens U is a new Pickens site specifically designed for students and alumni from colleges and universities across the United States who support energy independence for America.

Outreach on college campuses will be a critical component of our effort to build an Army of 1,000,000 supporters. We plan to mobilize students and alumni of colleges across America to support the Pickens Plan and prepare to take action during the first 100 days of the new Administration.

There are hundreds of college campuses across America, and we are interested in having Pickens Plan chapters on as many of them as possible – from small community colleges to liberal arts schools to prominent institutions to the largest state universities. The key is to find a motivated campus coordinator and an enthusiastic student population – with the right people in place, even the smallest of schools can make a big difference.

http://push.pickensplan.com/collegeMain.php

And best of all, we are in need of Campus Coordinators. This is an exceptional opportunity for a student or alumni to represent their College or University in a leadership role within Pickens Plan New Energy Army.

As a Campus Coordinator you will be responsible for the following:

o Be the public point of contact for their chapter of the Pickens Plan
o Recruit as many students as possible to be supporters of the Pickens Plan, with a particular focus on getting students to join our social networks on Facebook and/or Push.PickensPlan.com
o Host 1-2 events on campus between now and Inauguration Day to raise awareness for the Pickens Plan and recruit supporters
o Assist the New Energy Army regional leader with maintaining chapter webpages on Facebook and Push.PickensPlan.com
o Organize calls to action when we need Pickens Plan supporters from their chapter to contact their elected officials or take other action

The Pickens Plan is a bridge to the future — a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives, and buying us time to develop even greater new technologies.

Building new wind generation facilities and better utilizing our natural gas resources can replace more than one-third of our foreign oil imports in 10 years. But it will take leadership.

On January 20th, 2009, a new President will take office.

We're organizing behind the Pickens Plan now to ensure our voices will be heard by the next administration.

Together we can raise a call for change and set a new course for America's energy future in the first hundred days of the new presidency — breaking the hammerlock of foreign oil and building a new domestic energy future for America with a focus on sustainability.

You can start changing America's future today by supporting the Pickens Plan. Visit our website at www.pickensplan.com to join us. Email me directly for more exciting news.

As Georgia Leader for Pickens Plan Supporters, my goal is to bring us together as one group with divisions for different areas of our great state. We want to be well represented both on local and national level. Therefore, my plan is to have one GA group, so that when a person joins they do not have many inactive groups to choose from, but one active vital group. I ask that all who have started groups in Ga contact members for feedback. Let's work together. Let's set one group and delete others so we can all stand united. Each group now has so much to give, if we can do it together it will be more organized and productive with better communication. Also, we will have the ability to track our numbers and in this effort, numbers will mean power. So, please contact me with feedback, I am shooting for us to have this accomplished in the next 2 weeks so that all the new members and current members of a 130,000 member army can corrodinate efforts and make a difference in our state and beyond. I will pledge to contact, and meet in person all area leaders on a regular basis to keep us strong. Who is with me on this? Thank you for your time and all your efforts, pass this around and let's get to work. As soon as I get a hold on the petitions, I will strive to have GA as one of the largest groups represented, it starts at home. Let's make Georgia Pickens Plan Supporters a strong group. Have a Windy Day! Sam

DESPERATLY SEEKING ANGEL INVESTOR…..

I have been touting Solar, Wind and Tidal-Flow generation on one platform offshore for over 20yrs now......My wind is different from every one else's it is a type of Vertical Axis that has not been seen much if any in 20 yrs either.....it looks like a Power line pole
With holes drilled in it in such a manor that no matter which direction the wind blows it only turns one way.
I have been doing R&D and developing my new Patent Pending Recirculation Generator
That will run off 2 200w PV’s and will put out 1.7KW per hr…..
Takes the cost of 10 PV’s@ $1000.00 =$10,000.00 down to $3700.00 for my Hybrid System 2@ $1000.00 and $1700.00 for recirculator.
And puts out basically the same watts per hr….with a 60% reduction in COST!!!!!

GEORGIA NEEDS ITS UTILITY COMPANIES TO HAVE A VISIONARY LONG-RANGE ENERGY PLAN
Fuel supplies are essential to Georgia for lighting our homes and schools and running our industries. Yet there are problems with the current methods of generating energy in our state and current proposals by utility companies to meet our future energy demand. Much of Georgia Power’s proposed 20-year resource plan is a business-as-usual approach that, if adopted, will pose serious problems for Georgians in the future.

Our Energy Security and Reliability is at Stake.
Businesses and the Public Pay the Heavy Price.
Air Quality and Human Health Suffer.
Water for Coal and Nuclear Plants Competes with Cities, Businesses and Farms.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
The PSC will make a decision by mid-July. Please do the following:

Please write a letter about your concerns to Chairman Bobby Baker, Reference: Docket #24505, 244 Washington Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30334.
Or call Chairman Bobby Baker and the other commissioners (Chuck Eaton, Doug Everett, Angela Speir and Stan Wise) at (404) 656-4501 or (800) 282-5813.
WHY THE GEORGIA PSC SHOULD REQUIRE GEORGIA POWER TO PUT ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY AS A TOP PRIORITY:
Energy efficiency and renewable energy protect against increasing fossil fuel and natural gas prices
Hedge against energy supply shortages and disruptions
Avoid a growing dependence on natural gas
Reduce harmful air pollution and excessive water usage
Create local energy markets and increase employment
Avoid the high costs of building new conventional electric supplies.
Our Energy Security and Reliability is at Stake.
Currently, most of the energy used to power our homes and businesses comes from outside Georgia and the Southeast. There are no petroleum, natural gas, or uranium mines and reserves in the Southeast. According to the Energy Information Administration, Georgia’s electric power sector spent approximately $1.5 billion buying out of state coal and natural gas in 2003.(1)

Businesses and the Public Pay the Heavy Price.
Georgia and its utilities lag behind much of the country in investments in energy efficiency. There is a lot of wasted energy that all utility customers must pay for when the utility builds more transmission lines and power plants than are necessary. As fuel costs increase, consumers pay even more for this wasted energy.

Air Quality and Human Health Suffer.
Our current energy supply causes a great deal of damage to our health. Here are a few examples of the effects:

Soot and smog-forming nitrogen oxides are created from fossil fuel plants and engines. These can harm children’s lung development and lead to asthma attacks, heart attacks and stroke.
Coal fired power plants release air-borne mercury that ends up in lakes, rivers and streams. Neurological damage is linked with eating mercury-laden fish.
Tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen that is produced at all nuclear reactors, acts like water in the body and can pass across the placenta to affect a developing fetus.
Water for Coal and Nuclear Plants Competes with Cities, Businesses and Farms.
Coal and nuclear power plants are heavy water users. In 2001 nuclear Plant Vogtle used approximately 64 million gallons of water a day from the Savannah River and only returned 21 million gallons per day. Coal plant Scherer withdrew 59 million gallons of water a day from Lake Juliette (2). These and other fossil fuel and nuclear plants compete with local industries—from the carpet industries of Dalton to the peach growers in Tifton—for much needed water. The burden that our energy system places on the state’s water supplies will become even more severe if Georgia Power’s proposed plans for new power plants are carried out.

GEORGIA’S UTILITY REVIEW PROCESS:
Georgia law requires that Georgia Power submit an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) every three years for approval. The PSC is charged to review the company’s plan and to approve it or require revisions.

The centerpiece of the Georgia Power plan:

Build new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle near Augusta which would divert massive amounts of water away from the Savannah River, competing with other needs, as well as create more radioactive waste that cannot be disposed of safely;
Expand and upgrade its transmission lines to support several new power plants and increased electricity demand;
Build a new gas pipeline through properties from Union City to Smyrna.
The secondary part of the plan includes:

Minimal energy efficiency measures through “pilot programs” with limited investment;
Develop only about 200 MW of new renewable energy that amounts to less than 1% of Georgia Power’s current energy capacity (most of the company’s “green power” is currently landfill gas).
To view Georgia Power’s proposed plan and responses by independent experts, go to http://www.psc.state.ga.us/ (enter #24505 in the docket search box, and view documents filed on Jan. 31, 2007 by the company and documents filed by other parties on May 4 and May 7).

Greetings Friends,
We all need to thank Mr. Pickens for explaining the energy problem that we as a nation face. Earlier it was one Group (users) pointing fingers at the other Group (suppliers) and vice versa. The problem is real. It was magnified to some extent, in recent times, by speculators. But, the truth is we are importing more oil every year and producing less. We are sending billions of dollars overseas.

I like Mr. Pickens Plan but I think it needs to be supplemented by other plans. It by itself will not get us to Energy Independence. It will just buy us more time. For this reason I have posted a petition for Energy Independence .

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/windenergycorporation

Please (a) sign the Petition and (b) forward it to your friends. United we can achieve Energy Independence and avoid this constant financial bleeding of our great nation.
Thanks.

Regards and Best wishes,

Alankar Gupta

Clyde Childers how do the turbines stay in the air and how much does something like this weigh? Is this a product that is in working order or a concept design? It sounds great, but not time effective to assist in the first steps to energy independence.

I believe that in listening to Pickens address I have finally found someone who understands what basic Americans want from an energy plan. Showing how using something that already exists, and that does not cause conflict politically with enviormentalist, can help get us on the right path to controlling our energy independence Pickens has won my support.

Lets make this simple and cost effective step to reach the lofty goals of energy independence instead of throwing out big numbers and idealistic programs that may or may not exist.

Thanks for the discussion and please lets keep it going so that more ideas and answers may come from this experience.

Dustin
