Who killed the electric car?

This video was pointed out to me by a friend. Until I saw it a few days ago, I didn't even know that the car had been in production much less on the road. It is mind boggling to know we had this technology in the 90s and it was killed by people in power. Now we are paying $4 a gallon for gas, and our gov is screaming for us to let them drill in the Arctic preserve and offshore. How stupid is that???? They will destroy as long as they can make a buck, no matter what the cost.

Who Killed the Electric Car? It was among the fastest, most efficient production cars ever built. It ran on electricity, produced no emissions and catapulted American technology to the forefront of the automotive industry. The lucky few who drove it never wanted to give it up. So why did General Motors crush its fleet of EV1 electric vehicles in the Arizona desert? Good question....view the video clips and see for yourself.

I saw the documentary on the electric car and I agree with you, we could be a long way on electric car technology. Who killed it, I say the California energy board, (I forget the formal name), big oil and the GM board.

Now GM is crying because they have no vehicles to sale because they chose profits from SUV’s instead of looking out for the masses. I am in favor of the pluggable hybrid and solar energy. I would love to come home and plug my car in for the next day, with the added benefit of on power bill.
I agree with you. I know for a fact that in 1978 my boss was working to get electric cars rolling. He was opposed by auto makers, Congress, and the administration at that time. That is why GM scrapped their electric car; too much pressure and they wonder why their the company is in trouble.
