The United States has, since 911, become very aware of any vulnerability that exists in our national defenses. We have done a great deal to tighten our security but in the area of energy we remain somewhat defenseless. I say this because, by importing 70% of the fuel that we use to produce energy, we leave our whole infrastructure wide open to attack.
Oil tankers and pipelines are virtually undefended across vast stretches of the globe and a concerted attack on our energy supply line could cripple our country in a fairly short period of time.
If however we move toward self sufficiency in producing energy we eliminate this risk. We are much better able to protect our infrastructure within our borders than we are able to do it across the globe.
This is just one more reason why we MUST develop a plan whereby we produce most or all of our own fuel domestically. Nearly 100,000 of us at The Pickens Plan are working toward a plan for domestic energy production.
