Hi everyone!

The 9/27/08 National Day of Action is drawing to a close. I went to the Green Jobs Now event in Tampa, FL, right next the USF. 20 student organizations were involved in the event, and the event was called "Taking it to the Streets." The event was lead by the Black Student Union. There were several groups that supported green jobs and renewable energy. The event lasted from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The students at USF were promoting a new campus initiative called a "green fee." This fee is added to the tuition to support renewable energy practices around campus, such as recycling, renewable energy on or off campus, and energy conservation. The can go anywhere from $.25 per credit hour to $1.00 per credit hour. I thought it was an interesting concept. Whether it would be affordable, I don't know. Normal college expenses by themselves are quite high, and adding additional expenses on top of it may or may not be affordable for all students. I personally think a tax-based system would be more efficient. For example, if items purchased on campus had a "green tax," such as school supplies, food, books, drinks from vending machines, and school t-shirts and other school clothing, then the school could charge, say a 7% tax on these items and use the extra money for sustainability projects. This system would benefit everyone, and wouldn't put an unnessesary financial burden on the students. If the supposed "green fee" was implemented, I'm not sure if the students would be *required* to pay it as part of their tuition or not. I think how the students pay the green fee should be entirely up to them, not imposed on them in lump payments. I wonder what kind of programs their are in other schools. I'm going to check that out. This event was a great learning experience for me. I hope all of you who attended events have a great experience to tell. I'd love to see pics and video of the events you attended. Feel free to post them on the page. I'll be posting my pictures tomorrow. I'm sure there will many different pics on greenjobsnow.com.

Change to a Better Design in Spark Plugs, a little like changing light bulbs, easy to do with an impact for all. Spend $40.00 - $50.00 now and save $200.00 per year on fuel.

Hi everyone!

T. Boone just released two new videos about emailing the Picken's Plan to the candidates and Congress and telling them to adopt it. Whoever we end up with needs to have a valid plan for our energy policy and so does Congress. All of this BS bickering with Congress needs to stop, we can't afford to wait as they fight across the isle. Tell them to adopt the Picken's Plan.

Green Jobs Now! members,

In response to my poll, I've decided not to further engage in partisan politics. I realize that politics is a touchy issue with people, especially people on the PickensPlan website. Although political activism is a nesessary part of my group, engaging in pro-candidate and politically biased discussions will not enforce the overall goal and will alienate some members. My members are as important to me as my overall goal. Without all of you, I wouldn't have a group! If I ever do anything that seems out of line, just tell me and I'll correct the problem promptly.

Sincerely,
Tom Zellars
