Tonight, a few of us gathered in a private, online Event room - discussion area. I registered with the Conference Town site for a PIN number in order to have an audio component if people wanted it.

We were few but mighty. Perhaps the results of this pre-cursor to this Sunday’s Online Event for the Ohio Pickens Power can help others wondering about conversing and posting online, then, on the phone, then, meeting up in support of the Pickens Plan. I put the invitation out to those people with whom I have made ‘Friends’ to see if such a House Party online could work.

Attendees:

Four people attended the impromptu ‘pilot’ here this evening, both on the phone and in the discussion area: Mrs. Cheryl Grey (Texas), Marc A. Ross (California organizer), Henry (Illinois) and me (Marilynn [MRW], Ohio). We huddled up on the Conference Town Site, using a call-in number similar to those used in businesses, which has an ID number and moderation capabilities. This had been recommended by Ron Rhoades and Jim Headley as a way to bridge this text-heavy milieu we use. We liked it. We were also joined online by Richard Bradford and Susiehomemaker, so we had some comments in the discussion as I typed away on the running commentary.

Minutes:

We introduced ourselves, and discussed each other's situation briefly. Henry wishes to push his biomass algae project forward. Cheryl is part of the Communications Support group, and came to help point people in the right direction. Marc had just come home from work (in California) and is looking at his balancing of time for this issue, family and work (as are we all); he stayed for the call in its entirety, as he will be on radio.

Business Addressed by the Group:

The need for occasional communications from national leadership is important, encouraged and forthcoming. Now that Online and Grassroots organizers are creating a presence here on the Pickens Plan site, we hope to get to know these folks better. We have a need for talking points, for focused messages, for organizational direction on holding large or small house parties.

We want the issue of energy as our rallying cry for the Presidential campaign, and so will come together in the coming weeks to make those calls to legislators, write those letters, sign those petitions. The Vote’s in VOGUE. Each voter counts.

In one voice, we concurred that this energy issue has momentum and is a national issue of critical importance. It may take dimension in varying forms by interest and region, but the focus remains the same. We cannot sit idly by. What was it Marc Ross said? "I have grandchildren."

Meeting Results:

"I have grandchildren." The phenomenon of internet use for social networking climbs atop the shoulders of its parents’ social skills. Those who crave leaving a legacy of hope for the future take a leap of faith in using unfamiliar media. Why? To rid ourselves of shackles grown tight around and bleeding through our weekly budgets, our aspirations for our families, our cherished understanding of an America shined up for Sunday go-to-meetin' yet again.

We use the phone and e-mail, these Nings and Twitters, holding our breath that all is right in Denmark and on Main Street there in Internetland. What Granddad, or, Dad, taught us about making commitments and follow through draws strength from this technological know-how of the next generation’s Facebook, expressed in the Pickens Plan. “I Remember Mama” meets the Millenials in the middle to translate our dreams and visions into deals and value we can take home every night with pride.

Meeting Action Steps:

"What then must we do?" asked Tolstoy. As in that author’s time, we must talk to people unfamiliar with what we do here, though they look at us askance, then, curious, then, in a Santa-Claus “delite-parfait.”

We must search out--no--hunt down groups on the Pickens Plan, using a Search for Members, or 'Featured' Groups. With these will we write Congress, news outlets and call in to radio shows. Mr. Miyagi would be proud.

We must become more comfortable with this site's features, unfamiliar though they may be. What's a 'Friend' here? How does an 'Event' work? This from people who have run national conferences and time-sensitive production labs! But, step into the breach we shall.

Why? We have ‘grandchildren.’ We may even find a 'live chat' somewhere, if wanted, and jump in the deep end of this technological phenomenon, the Pickens Plan. Not only will we get some guidance for marching orders from ‘national,’ but also, because we know the mission rests on our shoulders, we'll use our technological 'hand signals' to seek out and accomplish the mission Pickens Plan requires, not just for now, but, for our grandchildren.

Call to Our Arms

We hear the sound of thunder. These aren't Lucas lights or Spielberg clouds. These are yearning passions of the American spirit to outmaneuver the economic ravages our energy woes have left on our modern landscape. With that one step captured as though in a frieze, T. Boone Pickens has unleashed the exponential groundswell of the father's responsibilities, the mother's cares, in combination with our children's Blackberry and iPod minds.

We shall fill our gas tanks with the tears of foes and beat away the chaff of careless words with action. You see. We have such grand children. The butterflies have effected liftoff.

My wife and I are having our annual (7th year) get-away with 5 other couples... we rent a large (6 bedroom) log cabin in northern Michigan woods... we canoe, raft, golf, and just goof off for 5 days... there is NO T.V. or Radio and cell phones usually don't work till we're near Ludington... this year I'm going to make sure they're all aware of Pickens Plan... being from the motor city, I'm amazed there isn't more being done using Natural gas for cars... the automakers are missing a big oppurtunity I think...

Is there a house party I could attend in Dallas this weekend? I'd like to become more informed on the movement.
Thanks,
John

This weekend isn't much notice. I don't have the space. Is anyone here in OKC?

Is there anyone from the Homer, Alaska area on the board? I don't know if we could pull it off by this weekend but maybe in the next couple of weeks.

We all have social events or gatherings of some sort this weekend.

If you are still wondering how to put a house party together or are too shy or otherwise unable to "build" for the cause, educating yourself to the key points of The Plan can help.

Simply sharing those points and your enthusiasm for restructuring America's energy scheme can be enough to "spark" others into action.

Have a great weekend. ~ KR

I'd attend a house party in Greater Boston, but I cannot organize one.

If you're looking for people to help with a House Party, or attend one that you're throwing, look to the local groups like "Kansas for Pickens Plan", or post an "Event" in the event section to bring people to your house party

I'll attend one if there's one in Greater Boston, but I cannot plan one.
