Houstonians for Pickens Plan

The reason for creating this group is to build a network amongst the Houstonians interested in alternative energy. Mayor Bill White is one of few Mayors throughout the US who supports alternative energy. We should work together to make a difference.

Hello group, I have some exciting news. I have been talking and emailing a legilative assistant for representative Hunter of the Texas state legislature regarding Energy Independence Savings Bonds initiative at the state level. I spoke to him on the telephone and he encourages anyone from Texas, no matter what district in TX, to email him about Energy Independence Savings Bonds for Texas. He stated he will happily forward all correspondence received to the correct representatives in Texas. Representative Hunter is an attorney and Caleb said there are two other attorneys working for Rep. Hunter. It is interesting to hear there is question about the legality of a state level savings bond program similar to the federal level. They are actively working on it and this is great news! Please feel free to pass on this information to anyone from Texas. Here is Caleb's email:
Mr. Kendall,
I am glad you sent this to me, I have visited with the representative and I am working with the state to see the legality of state bonds versus having it go through the federal government. I will keep you posted on the developments.
Thank you,

URGENT ACTION NEEDED TONIGHT! PLEASE FORWARD TO YOU MEMBERS & FRIENDS TOO.

I have been surfing around trying to find an idea for a blog story that would bring us another step closer to reaching our goal for Pledge Signers. I know that Mr. Pickens has met & discussed the Pickens Plan with both candidates in detail. In speeches, I keep picking up on terms that are the 'PICKENS PLAN' verbage from both candidates during interviews too. So I know they are getting the point of what we are demanding for from our next President, notice I didn't say "asking for from our next President" ..... that's progress for me!

As I scanned the Web for current news finally arriving on the ABC News Web Site, I clicked on "George Stephanopoulos".
HOLY COW! A STORY!!!

He is interviewing Sen McCain Sunday Morrning Sept 28th, AND the AWESOME FEATURE IS........
we can send in a question we want George to ask Sen McCain! TAAAAA DAAAAAA!!!!!!

It was so easy!
Here's the URL for getting you on George's Page scan down just a little & you'll see it.
Just fill it out, click & it's on George's Desk for tomorrow morning!
Woohooooo!

Here is the question I sent in:

Senator McCain, I would like to ask, when you win this Election & get into your Oval Office, will you implement an Energy Plan that will reduce our foreign oil dependece by 30% in the next 10 years? Will you be enacting your Energy Plan for this reduction within the first 100 days of your Presidency?
Respectfully, Karen Farrer Pittsburg Texas

Just to give you an idea of how I phrased my own. You can ask ANY question you are wanting an answer for.
I just wanted to hear his answer to the Pickens Plan.

Have a great evening! Im TiVoing George!!

Fantastic to see enthusiasm in Houston! I represent Standard Renewable Energy, Texas' largest solar installer (with over 1.4 MW), and we are a Houston-born RE company. Let's keep the ball rolling - loving the momentum

Thanks for all you're doing in the Greater Houston area to support and follow the Pickens Plan. If you or your contacts in the area are available to attend Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee's energy town hall meeting today, please do! We need to get these folks talking about the plan --- details re: the event are below -- thanks for your help in getting Houston area folks out to this event:

Aug. 6. 6-8 p.m. HOUSTON, ENERGY TOWN HALL — U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, co-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Energy taskforce, will host an energy town hall meeting, at which the nation's top oil executives, Shell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP, and ConocoPhillips, will discuss solutions to the growing energy crisis with Houston residents.

Location: School of Business Auditorium, Texas Southern University, 3100 Cleburne

Let me know if you're able to attend or know of folks that might be going and could report back on the event.

Thanks! - Jennifer Harris - Pickens Plan - Texas Grassroots

I recently visited Lubbock, TX by road from Houston and was amazed to see thousands of wind mill generators between Abilene & Lubbock. It was an amazing sight and I could just went on shooting a video every 5 minutes of these tall machines. I wonder who owns these wind generation sites, and I feel this can be done in the rest of the country.

I would urge everyone to check out the description in my profile. I am a firm believer in inspiring young people to become part of a solution and Paradigm Shift Institute is a good way to get started. Anyone have any ideas on sponsorship for the institute?

I am be intersted in two possible approaches to solar energy. One is going in 3 steps 1 heat my pool which will extend its use to eleven months each year, 2. heating water for my house and 3 convert to the rest of my house electricity. The second approach is to try to build a group of owners interested in order to get the best price for conversion. A major problem is the home owner associations that prohibit the use of solar panels. I thing we may have to get state representative to pass a law overriding HOA objections. Patt Snyder

I am all for alternative sources of energy and Pickens plan certainly deserves close introspection. However, I cam across 2 interesting articles on pickens plan. This should not be construed as my being against the plan, but it does raise questions in one's mind.
