AWEA Action Alert: Senate overwhelmingly passes PTC Extension. Crucial House vote expected late this week.

Thanks to you for making your voice heard on Capitol Hill. The U.S. Senate just voted overwhelmingly, 93 to 2, to approve legislation containing a one-year extension of the crucial wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) through December 31, 2009. The bill, H.R. 6049, also would create a new investment tax credit for purchases of small wind systems used to power homes, farms and small businesses.

Next, the bill must be approved by the full House of Representatives in a vote late this week. Once again, your voices are crucial in order to clear this final hurdle before Congress adjourns at the end of September. This vote is the last opportunity this year for Congress to extend the PTC.

Wind energy is not only a significant component of the global warming solution, but also a powerful engine in the U.S. economy. Since January 2007, more than 40 wind industry manufacturing facilities have been announced, brought online, or expanded in the U.S., creating over 9,000 jobs and $1 billion in manufacturing investment. When the PTC has lapsed in the past, wind energy investments have fallen 73-93% in the following years. We cannot allow this bright spot in our economy to burn out.

Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to vote Yes on H.R. 6049.

AWEA Legislative Action Alert: Contact your Senators and urge them to vote for the PTC extension.

The Senate will vote on the Baucus/Grassley Amendment to H.R. 6049, which contains an extension of the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for wind energy for an additional year. The Senate will also vote on the final passage of H.R. 6049. If the Senate passes the bill, it will quickly move to the House of Representatives where it will be voted on later this week. This could be that last opportunity this year for Congress to extend the PTC. We must urge Congress to successfully pass an extension of the PTC, which is set to expire at the end of 2008, before they adjourn for recess at the end of the week.

Energy legislation summary:
Comprehensive American Energy Security & Consumer Protection Act
This week, the House will consider the Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act. The comprehensive Democratic plan expands domestic production of oil and gas and renewables to increase our security, ends subsidies to the oil companies, promotes good jobs here in America, and requires Big Oil to pay what it owes taxpayers. It puts us on the path toward energy independence and a clean green energy future through greater energy efficiency and conservation, and protects consumers through strong action to lower the price at the pump.

WOW- in addition to the PLEDGE, we now also have a RED "CONTACT CONGRESS" BUTTON on the main page, top right. Fill out the standard form and the letter is sent to YOUR Governor and Washington Representatives! Easy breezy. Perfect timing considering the energy bill is coming up. We must beat back the lobbyists!

WE CAN DO THIS.

Dr. Paul A. Curto Comment by Dr. Paul A. Curto on September 11, 2008 at 8:09am
On the anniversary of the day that eats at the American soul, and at the hour that we heard of the deaths at the Pentagon had been added to the toll at the twin towers in Manhattan, I say a prayer of mourning.

God save these innocent souls. May the light of their sacrifice become a beacon to lead our Nation to understanding its role in the world.

We have spent these last seven years in a futile attempt to reconcile their loss, even starting wars for reasons that remain indecipherable to the people of this planet.

Many would not dare utter this sentiment, but it is obvious to me that we were attacked because of our energy policy. Directly or indirectly, energy is the reason for our presence in the Middle East. Bin Laden has repeatedly stated that we were attacked because of our presence in his homeland, Saudi Arabia. The Saudis sit on a quarter trillion barrels of oil.

19 of the attackers on 9/11 were Saudi.

As some of the engineers who post here say, do the math.

Hey everyone. I just finished a meeting with Rep. Jay Inslee's energy aid. She was very helpful and gave me a paper copy of the summery for a nice piece of legislation.
H.R. 2809: New Apollo Energy Act of 2007
I will have the summery in the morning in pdf form. Here is the bill and the link. It is a very broad reaching bill and I think it is something we should support. It has a lot of the pieces we need to get off oil.

Hey all.
It looks like our call for action has caused the Senate to work together. This might be something to support. We should keep an eye on the work.
