Getting a lot of mixed feedback on the American Clean Energy & Security Act.
Pros say its an improtant big win ( more of a weiner I think) and cons call it a trillion dollar boondoggle.

Thanks Ted and Missy, don't forget to write congress about the American Clean Energy & Security Act

That's another point brought up at one of Boone's town hall meetings (Nova Univ.). Nelson is a closet PPer. Its time to out him.(LOL). Getting him to sign the pledge seems like a possibility.

Robert Schultz Comment by Robert Schultz on June 25, 2009 at 12:26pm
Dear Mr. Schultz:

Thank you for your letter expressing support for increased energy efficiency and reduced fossil fuel emissions. It was very good to hear from you.

Like you, I believe that increasing our use of alternative sources of energy, renewable energy resources and developing conservation and efficiency technologies will help our country meet its future energy needs.

Throughout my Senate tenure I have consistently supported efforts to diversify our energy portfolio to offset fossil fuel use, and I assure you that I will continue to fight for such measures. The United States needs to take meaningful action within this area to protect our health, environment, and our country. I will continue to work with my Senate colleagues to push for increased conservation incentives, adequate consumer protection, and renewable development that safeguard our environment. By working in a strong, bipartisan manner, we can develop a real comprehensive energy policy that provides both short and long-term solutions to our energy crises.

Tax credits for increased energy efficiency and alternative energy development can play an important part in helping America move toward cleaner and more efficient energy policies. In October 2008, I voted to pass H.R. 1424, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which was signed into law by President Bush on October 3, 2008. This bill included numerous extensions of tax credits designed to stimulate the economy and encourage investment in alternative energy sources. Tax credit extensions for wind, geothermal, biofuel, and renewable diesel energy were included, as well as credits for electric vehicles and energy efficient homes and businesses. To encourage the development of "green" homes and commercial buildings, tax credits for qualified green design projects were also extended. Provisions such as these will stimulate investment in renewable energy sources, reward home owners and business owners for increasing their energy efficiency, and help America become a world leader in the production and use of advanced energy technology.

As a member of both the Senate Budget Committee and the Appropriations Committee, I have consistently supported increased funding for these federal energy efficiency programs and other similar efforts that encourage conservation. Reducing wasteful energy use is a responsibility we all must accept. These are important efforts, and I will continue to advocate for increased spending of such initiatives as the appropriations process moves forward.

Please know that as Congress continues to debate energy policy, I will keep your thoughts on this important issue in mind, and consider all commonsense energy measures that come before the Senate. If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please sign up for my weekly update at http://murray.senate.gov/updates. Thank you for contacting me about this important issue, and please keep in touch.

I hope all is well in Spokane.

Nelson keeps talking more and more like a Pickens man. Maybe watching Al Gore's wimpy ad (sounds like he's talking to children) will swing him our way..

Dear Ms. Greinstein:

Thank you for contacting me about the price of gasoline. The price run-ups in the past few years are inexcusable and intolerable.

To stabilize gas prices, we must rein in unbridled and unregulated speculators. Gas prices fluctuate wildly because speculators, who behave like condo-flippers, are allowed to buy and resell oil contracts. Until we stop that, we'll continue to be gouged at the pump. I recently reintroduced S. 221, which would ban unregulated speculation by oil traders and bring gas prices back down to earth.

Most importantly, we need to break our addiction to foreign oil and switch to alternative fuels.

Thirty years ago, in the wake of gas shortages and long lines at the pump, the President declared the need for the U.S. to become energy independent. Unfortunately, little has been done since. And having only three percent of the world's oil reserves while we consume 33% of the world's oil production means America cannot drill its way out of this crisis.

We must develop alternative fuels--like ethanol-- and make it from things we don't eat. And we need to do it with the same sense of urgency and focus that President Kennedy brought to landing on the moon. Until we've done this, we need to conserve as much oil as possible by raising fuel-efficiency standards for all vehicles and further increasing the production of hybrid cars.

I appreciate your thoughts on this issue. And I will continue to support measures that provide our nation with real alternatives to our reliance on oil.

Sincerely,
Senator Bill Nelson
Chandrashekar Tamirisa Comment by Chandrashekar Tamirisa on June 23, 2009 at 9:51pm
Dear Chandrashekar:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2009 HR (1835). I appreciate hearing your views on this issue.

This legislation that would modify the current tax credits to provide even greater incentive for state and municipal fleet managers to buy natural gas vehicles and engines. Another provision would create a new tax credit for auto manufacturers that produce natural gas and bi-fuel vehicles. The NAT GAS Act also would require that by the end of 2014 at least 50 percent of the new vehicles purchased and placed into service by the federal government to be capable of operating on compressed or liquid natural gas. Finally, the legislation would provide grants for light and heavy-duty natural gas vehicle and engine development.

I am committed to supporting progressive measures that protect our environment and boost our economy--an energy bill that would make the United States internationally competitive in the renewable and green technologies market. This kind of legislation would in turn provide a massive boost to the economy and create millions of high-skilled, high wage manufacturing, installation and servicing jobs.

I will keep your thoughts in mind as Congress considers this issue. Again, thank you for sharing your views on this matter with me and please let me know whenever I can be of service to you in the future.

Sincerely,
Chris Van Hollen
Member of Congress
