T. Boone Pickens to Speak at University of Missouri System's First Energy Summit
Monday, March 23, 2009 :: Staff infoZine

Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens, architect of the "Pickens Plan" to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil, is the keynote speaker for a statewide Energy Summit hosted by the University of Missouri's four campuses April 22-23 in Columbia.

Columbia, MO - infoZine - Pickens' keynote address is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day) in Jesse Hall Auditorium on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The speech is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating, registration is required. To register, visit www.missourisummits.com.

Missouri University of Science and Technology Chancellor John F. Carney III is chair of the Missouri Energy Summit.

Pickens is the founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, one of the nation's most successful energy-oriented investment funds. His Pickens Plan calls for revamping U.S. energy policy to harness domestic energy alternatives while promoting the development of new technologies for alternative energy.

Pickens elevated energy reform into the national debate during the 2008 presidential campaign, with both candidates using direct facts and statistics provided by the Pickens Plan on the campaign trail. Many aspects of the Pickens Plan were included in President Obama's stimulus package, including incentives for advancement of wind, solar, and other alternative energy sources and a new transmission grid. Taking advantage of abundant domestic alternative fuels like natural gas to reduce our country's staggering dependence on foreign oil, which has reached nearly 70 percent, remains a top priority of Mr. Pickens as he continues his call for a comprehensive energy plan.

University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee announced in December that the Energy Summit would be one of two statewide economic development forums spearheaded this year by the university's four campuses. The second summit, slated for Oct. 7-8 in Kansas City, will focus on biological and life sciences.

"We want to bring together our state's best researchers, faculty, companies, entrepreneurs, investors, federal and state agencies, students and others who can help our state assume a leadership role in achieving energy and health advances for this century," Forsee said. "Cultivating renewable energy sources and improving human health are important goals in their own right, but they also can play a huge role in advancing our state's economy by creating more jobs."

Pickens' speech kicks off an afternoon lineup of leading national energy experts at the Energy Summit. First-day speakers include:

* Dale Klein, chairman, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
* Joan Woodard, Ph.D., executive vice president and deputy laboratories director, nuclear weapons program, Sandia National Laboratories
* Gary Rainwater, chairman, CEO and president, AmerenUE
* Fredrick D. Palmer, senior vice president, Peabody Energy
* Richard Sayre, director, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center
* Bob Dixon, incoming chair, Alliance to Save Energy Board
* Bob Kruse, executive director of global vehicle engineering for hybrids, electric vehicles and batteries, General Motors
* Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for 21st Century Energy
* Michael Chesser, chairman and CEO, Great Plains Energy and KCP&L
* Research officers from the University of Missouri System's four campuses

Day two of the Missouri Energy Summit will feature presentations and panel discussions by researchers invited from public and private universities across the state, governmental and nonprofit agencies, energy companies, and others.

We live in southwest Missouri. The best way we have found to save on energy is to replace everything electrical with replacements that are Energy Star.
I wish we could buy natural gas or propane cars and truck around here like Salt Lake City. I'm sure that MFA would gladly fill the tanks, like they sell gas and diesel

I went and did a little searching out there for Missouri specific products and ways to get off the grid. Missouri's department of Energy is abysmal when it comes to green energy types. So I located this site below which is the federal site relating to energy that can be purchased in Missouri that is green energy (wind, solar, etc..). This may be an incremental step that must be taken before Missouri decides to put some emphasis on green energy in its state and loosens up some regulatory practices. Truth is that depending on how corrupt and ignorant the local and state governments are will translate out to how fast your state transitions to something other than coal, nuclear, and oil.

Alright Missouri does not have Citizenre panels available. That is a little disheartening. Maybe another company exists that is doing the same thing? Maybe one could start the business for Citizenre there? Either way I think that the transition is going to be brought about incrementally.

Sorry to post that. I thought Missouri was on board with this company. Maybe changing the legal situation in Missouri is the most logical step then move forward?

Whispering Eagle,

It may be more efficient to hook up to the grid, save the money that you were spending on gasoline and buy more efficient appliances, or start with a small solar system in your home. That is a lot of money to be spending on gas. At least with the grid you are paying coal miners here in the United States, not terrorist businessmen who say that love us.

Anyways I apologize about the Citizenre thing being a bunk for Missouri. Burn down the capitol, that should provide energy.

This is about alternative solar energy that all those DIY people might consider for their homes. I have not tried these ideas but I have always found very useful information at the Mother Earth News site. So please check it out and leave me a comment.

Love and hugz,

OK folks, I checked out the Citizenre company regarding service for the state of Missouri and there is none for our state. I am sure that I am not the only one who would like to see the alternative energy programs come to our state and to provide cleaner and better power for the people of this great state, but who is going to tell the current electric coops and companies that we are not going to need them anymore? They currently have a monopoly on the power grid in this state and if you are not paying them thousands of dollars for their services you end up like me with no service at all.

At the present time I pay over $800/month for gasoline for my generator and ice to keep my food cold so that I can fool myself into believing that I have a normal life. I would sure like to be spending it on something else but I am a disabled veteran living on a fixed income and do not have the resources to participate in these programs or ideas.

When are the people of this country going to wake up and smell the coffee??? I am not the only person finding it difficult to live on the small amount that I receive each month, and then I am reminded that this is the country and people who wanted me to fight for their freedom and now do not even know that I exist.

So is there any good help out there or are these just fly by night dreams??? This veteran would like to know!!!

There are solutions and they are currently available to us. The biggest gripe that we have about becoming solar dependent is the cost of the panels and battery systems. Currently there is a company which installs the panels to your owned residence for, no fees, no service fees, no permit hassles, no system purchase, and only charges you the same kilowatt hour rate as the current electric company where you live. You rate will never be higher than if it was connected to the power companies lines. Since I myself am independently impoverished, this sounds like a win-win solution. I do not have the money up front to purchase the energy system; another company installs it for free, and then only charges me what I would be paying to a fossil fuel burning power plant. The name of the company is Citizenre. I will attach a web page for the company below. The company is currently underway taking reservations for the systems. Albeit this is a great idea, with little upfront investment for the individual, I hope that it takes off. The website for Citizenere is below.

http://renu.citizenre.com/

My next point to make regarding this energy efficiency movement currently underway within the world is about transportation. Transportation and the use of oil to fuel our insatiable need to move our bodies and stuff from one place to another is the whole reason our lives are unstable. We have been lied to for years so oil and fossil fuel companies could turn our democracy into a plutocracy = (government ruled by money). I am going to give you some homework if you are really truly interested in seeing potential. Everyone here should watch

"Who killed the Electric Car?"
The link for purchase it below, it is $9.99 and I don't get a red cent or work for the makers of this movie. Better yet go to your local Blockbuster or Netflix and get it today if possible. Great Documentary, it will anger you though. Clearly showing the cover-up and conspiracy that you the American citizen have been exposed to a good time now.

http://www.amazon.com/Who-Killed-Electric-Martin-Sheen/dp/B000I5Y8FU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1219420791&sr=8-1

For those of you who can not watch this documentary, the documentary is regarding a car released by General Motors in California back in December of 1999 called the EV-1(Electric Vehicle-1). I must remind you to notice the date of release before I move on with this thought. DECEMBER 1999, almost 10 years ago General Motors released this car. This car was not your little weak electric car that resembles some of these cars children drive around. This car was fast and very futuristic. Watch the movie and find out!!! The car could get at least 150 miles to a charge, plugging it into your house electric supply! This was the first generation model of this car, the next generation after General Motors bought all the patents to better battery technology got 300 miles to a charge! California built rest areas with solar panels where you could plug your EV-1 in and charge it for free!!!

Most people do not commute more than 150 miles a day to work and back. This takes care of most persons oil needs to work, grocery store, shopping and back. The next generation which got 300 miles to a charge released before the year 2003 easily could take care of the majority of the populations needs.

Get this though. General Motors creating the car realized something and overturned the law in California which required .03% of vehicles to be alternative energy. Why? Oil company cross-investments? Gasoline taxes for states and federal government could be effected, loss of revenue? Many other questions go unanswered. A small article about the EV-1 is listed below from Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1

After the law in California was overturned, General Motors gathered every single EV-1 they created that they only allowed people to lease, crushed them and buried them in the desert. All of this is captured in the movie "Who killed the Electric Car?". I must remind you this technology was so revolutionary that is had to be destroyed, and they had this technology back in 1999. Now what? GM is releasing a car called the Volt in 2010 that is not even half as good as the EV-1 that was released in 1999!!!! WHY? DID they all of a sudden loose the plans and blueprints for the EV-1? Did GM's Engineering department forget about the EV-1? I don't think so. The Volt which is due to be released in 2010, is not a straight electric vehicle. It runs off of gasoline that charges the battery. That way you can not charge your car with a solar panel for free. That way you can continue to pay gasoline taxes at the pump. That way Exxon-Mobil with government tax breaks continues to reap profits never heard of in the history of the world. That way they still have some control over you and your purse. If you have less money to spend on things, the weaker you feel and less likely you are to attempt to change bigger issues.

Do your research!!!!! Things are the way they are for reasons.
I welcome any questions or concerns.

One must ask oneself: Why are we really in Iraq (this is currently our largest expense as a nation, freezing our national government from fixing any economic woes)? Saddam Hussein didn't scare the local countries there. How could he scare the America superpower from half way around the world with, no missiles capable of hitting us? We are not there for charity towards the Iraq people. If this was so we would be liberating every country on earth. Iraq held a prize worthy of conquering. Oil. If you control energy supplies, you control countries. Money, power, greed all wrapped up and sold to us on a golden platter under the cloak of Terrorism.

"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable an ignorable war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder." -- Albert Einstein

We must face ourselves truthfully and deal with the challenges of our times. If not, our children and their children will look back and wonder what we were thinking. All of us already think this we just will not take the sacrifices needed to move into getting off of this substance that keeps us in shackles. Rise up and do your part, not for notoriety, not for fame, but because it liberates you and me. Get the information do you research and get out there and take action. Quit feeding the beasts of our times and invest in life.
