CNG Auto Insurance

I am seeking auto insurance for the dual-fuel CNG-gasoline used auto I recently purchased from the federal government through auction. My auto insurance company, 21st Century formerly AIG, says my VIN number is not listed. When I told them about the type of auto I purchased, 21st Century said they could not insure a modified auto, even though this CNG dual-fuel auto appears to have been right from the Chevrolet factory, because they would not know how to value a "modified" vehicle if it damaged. When I contacted my mother's auto insurance company, Amica, they searched three data based for the CNG dual-fuel VIN and could not find it and therefore could not insure it. Without auto insurance, I can not legally drive this vehicle and can not consume CNG as a transportation fuel.

Do you or any one in the PickenPlan organization have any direct leads to assist me in locating an insurance company that can insure this dual-fuel CNG-gasoline used auto?

Sincerely,
Robert A Evangelista

Hello William here one of my post of CNG kits.
Hello I have over come these problems with the lower cost kits. It is not that hard to do. I get close to 30 MPG CNG in city. With a range of about 150 miles to the CNG tank. and I still have the stock gasoline tank and engine set up. My car will pass all test and is safe. The EPA says you can not change the car. but for a CNG sys is to be certifide it must use the stock ECM programing that the came with the car from factory.

I have work as a Dealer tech most of my life and have done so many ECM software down loads that change miss fire count. fuel trim and just about ever thing on the car. This is what is called a update at the Dealer not one time did I ever hear of them retest any of this updates on just one car there can be 10 plus updates in the first 6 months for the engine along.

On my page you will see converting todays cars is very easy. The problem is the EPA has stop this in the USA dead in its tracks. They are using old data 10 years back to do this. The EPA have driving the cost of CNG kit to be certfived in the USA to work on one car that engine group at a cost of $100,000 plus for that kit so the cost must be passed on to the car.

If the kit works and the tail pipe is cleaner on CNG witch it is and it passes the Check Engine light test OBD2 isn't that what we wish for?
These low cost, safe, easy to install kit should be used in the USA
It buts the 40,000 machinics to work that just lost there dealership jobs.
All the service people needed to install home fueling stations that will be build some one will build them.
The air will be cleaner and slow are need for oil to a crawl and give us time to come up with plans for the next fuel.

The EPA laws on this must be changed,
I read some where For the People By The People not For The Oil People By A Few People.

The EPA has done good for the people of the USA but here on CNG kits they need to look at the big picture.

Greetings! I'm currently visiting from Singapore. I am a owner and operator of refueling stations in Singapore (www.smartenergy.sg).
I wish you all well - I use to live here in South Plainfield. So I hope to give my comments and opinions when the opportunity arises.
Cheers!

Klaus, good work. Early adopters like you are doing the heavy lifting so CNG vehicles can become more practical and affordable for everyone else in NJ. We have been talking with the Fuelmakers (supply) and Baytechs (conversions) etc. of the CNG industry and unfortunately although the technology is there - getting it to NJ citizens is still FAR more arduous than it should be. Part of this is due to an immature market, part due to regulatory hurdles, but just as much due to the limited product options and cars/kits available. With more good work like yours hopefully this will change soon!

Answering to Alison: There is only a limited number of models to be retrofitted, minivans and vans figure prominently, but new models are being added with time. just query your particular vehicle with the local retrofitter.
Once you have a CNG vehicle, you need to have it filled. A home version is available from "FuelMaster", now bought by T.Boone Pickens for 18 millions!
Before that event, it had cost 3.5 K to purchase one for your home. I expect it to go down much in price now...
The unit is like a vacuum in reverse: it sucks up natural gas from your supply line, compresses it and fills it into your CNG tank on your car. To stay within save limits, this is done very carefully and therefore takes about all night to re-fill your car with enough CNG to last 100 miles.
As you can see, you can hardly buddy up your fueling station with another neighbor to cut costs this way. That's why my group advocates a geographical saturation of CNG users so they can build a fleet (fast) fueling station for use by members. Hope that helps, greetings, Klaus

Two questions actually, can you fill me in on the retrofit - how much, what type of vehicle can it work with, where and how do you fuel it and
... what are my first steps to getting a fueling station for my area- is that a puc sign off? how much does it cost to construct and then how does it get filled. If there is a web site or two that are good that would be fine also.

Thank you Alison Smith

just a reality check: i contacted honda, having learned they only manufacture 1000 vehicles of the GX. Lo and behold, all is sold out for the year! They are gearing up for new production by mid 2009?!?(might as well read 2090) next week after my visit to our local retrofitter in Keyport I shall know more about that part of the business and share it here...
