Net metering is when you have some type of alternative energy source at your home that actually spins your meter backswords and will reduces your electric bill. In some cases, if you generate more power then you are using in that month you will receive a credit towards future months. You should defiantly check with your local power company. Every power company has different polices. www.gocoastalgreen.com

Yep, That's a big part of the problem. They are allowed to do their own thing in the absence of clear and concise Net Metering Policy. Then, where there is policy, it is decided by and done in committe with those being "regulated". The policy, in most states where there is a policy, is very "Utility Friendly" and obviously designed to limit the growth of home energy generation. The policies that do exist are full of Utility Company loop holes, ambiguous language, and basically limitations to hold back the competition of home energy generation.

That's why state by state, utility by utility, then ultimately at the national level, we need net metering standards that give us energy freedom. People have to speak up, educate their representative as to what is needed/wanted and push hard. It won't be easy, Big Utilities contribute to campaigns, and no telling what all gifting, free lunches, corruption exists in these relationships. Our elected government, their appointed "regulators", and Big Utility attorneys sit at the table to craft these limitations and restrictions on our energy freedom. It's obvious, and unacceptable given our energy crisis, financial crisis, and global problem.

Yes, that's the idea of TRUE net metering, but in many many cases, the utility companies and their government buddies have it in rules that at the end of the month, any left over is "Granted" to the Big Utility... Can you believe that? Or, in many other states like Ohio, if they have to pay you for excess, it is paid at about 1/2 what they charge for the power. They sell it to your neighbor and give you 1/2 to nothing in most states. ... Nice.

If you look at news related to Net Metering, it's one politician after another grand stsnding about some minor progress in Net Metering. They never address and go for a real Taxpayer Friendly policy, it's just one increment after another of small gestures in their continued limitation of energy freedom.

It's simple what we want and need in ANY STATE for Net Metering. So, as you advocate for improvement, it's simple what is needed.

We want:
(1) NO Limit, or 2MW on to Size of Systems
(2) NOLimits on Enrollment
(3) All Utilities Included, Municipal, Co-Ops, River Authorities, Everybody.
(4) Minimal, Fair Fees and Red Tape
(5) Policy of NEG (net excess generated) which is what is done with extra power you generate. We want 1 to 1 ( full retail credit ) with a annual settlement of the NEG to the homeowner or small business who invested in green energy. Completely fair policy on NEG.
