As we approach the new year (and get ready for the new WH Administration & Congress), we are shifting gears to begin recruiting Pickens Plan District Leaders in every congressional district to help with activities in the coming months.

Please let me know if you are interested in serving as a District Leader in your area and I will get you additional information.

Thanks.

5 NC Mayors Sign Pickens Pledge for Energy Independence

To date, 168 Mayors across the nation have signed the Pickens Pledge, joining T. Boone Pickens’ national campaign to reduce foreign oil imports by utilizing abundant domestic resources including wind power and natural gas.

In NC, the following Mayors have signed the pledge:

William Bell, Mayor, Durham
John Grogan, Mayor, Eden
Alfonzo King, Mayor, Goldsboro
Yvonne Johnson, Mayor, Greensboro
Raymond Pennington, Mayor, Lumberton

If your Mayor is not on the list, contact their office today and urge them to sign the pledge for energy independence!

For a complete list of Mayors who have signed the pledge, please visit:

Thanks.

I say, anyone that has done even a little research knows that the 1mw turbines cost roughly 1 million each. The only way windfarms will ever REALLY get off the ground is if private investors fund the projects for the landowners. A business plan for a windfarm isn't rocket science, the 1mw. turbines produce roughly $200,000/ yr. each , in clean electricity that is sold to the local provider. The trouble is finding more people like Mr. Pickens to put their money where their mouth is. Someone please contact me if you would like to invest in a windfarm either with land or capital, I have alot of good ideas and resources.

NC can be a leader for energy independence. We can push Duke and Progress energy to upgrade the power grid, build nuclear plants, and build wind and solar generators. Go T. Boone !

If you listen to Mr. Pickens, you will see that he is talking about a comprehensive plan that includes drilling the OCS and ANWR.

Demonizing fossil fuels (and nuclear energy) is not productive. 99% of everything we use in this world is petroleum based. Look around you Plastic = Oil, Glass needs Oil, fiber needs oil, Solar Panels need Oil, The Wind Turbines will need Oil (and Coal generated energy to produce).

The monitor you are looking at, the metal case contaning the CPU, the silicone motherboard, and other peripherals all involve heavy usage of oil and its derivatives.

This plan is not about a fantasy Utopia where we use O% carbon based energy. It is about reducing our dependence on foreign oil, It is about keeping that money in the USA and supporting quality high tech labor and R&D.

I am sorry but we are not going to be able to eliminate the use of carbon based energy for several generations. The population will continue to grow and we will need more energy (meaning everything). Hopefully we can become more efficient in it's usage, but this country needs energy, unless you want a total breakdown of our society.

Today we produce around 6% of our energy using renewables. We aren't going to find that other 94% overnight. I am all in favor of Wind Turbines, Solar Panels, Hydro Electric, Nuclear, etc. and I hope we find true breakthroughs soon, but I never have and never will fall victim to the green rhetoric that is contributing to the stagnation, litgation, and burdensome regulation of our economy.

Hello all!
I wanted to let you know about a campaign here in Raleigh to Stop Global Warming with Greenpeace!

Volunteers are working to encourage our candidates for Congress, Rep. Brad Miller and Hugh Webster, to be leaders in the fight to stop global warming!

We want to ensure that they:
• Increasing our energy efficiency
• Limiting global warming pollution
• Investing in clean, renewable energy like wind and solar and not in dirty, dangerous nuclear and coal.

Join us! You can RSVP to events on our website, or send me an email at kelly.miller@greenpeace.org!

Do Something

Where is our economic and social justice when it comes to the problems we face in this country? We the people of the United States own this country. Our representatives, who are supposed to work for us, are blocking us from getting what we mandate. In corporate America they would be fired for such insubordinance.

An example is the current energy crisis. I don’t believe that many of our legislators truly understand how dramatic this situation is. Billions of dollars are leaving our country daily, while the dollar continues to weaken, and rogue nations are propped up by insane policies. The bureaucracy has cooked the books to the point of telling us that everything’s fine and we aren’t in a recession. If they want to live in fantasyland that’s ok, but don’t do it at our expense.

It’s time for bickering to cease and action to begin! Most of this country’s issues are not complex, but many of our legislators are ruining our future by putting their personal interests ahead of national interests. What they are doing is treasonous. I often wonder if an Economic Depression would be enough reign in their arrogance.

The Declaration of Independence states, “…governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it…”

We deserve representation. Much of what King George was doing 232 years ago is being done to us today by a federal government that has lost perspective. The bureaucracy has created a class amongst itself. They have forgotten that they have their jobs at the discretion of the citizens and seem to believe that we are here for their disposal.

Common sense allows for the belief that we are all unique individuals and therefore we are going to have differences of opinion on important issues. But, we cannot allow those differences to create this bitterness that will not allow us to progress as a society. We should immediately act on issues where we share similar beliefs and work diligently to see where we share common ground on the most divisive issues.

I refuse to believe that we are all so different that we cannot agree on anything of substance, but that is how we are currently being governed. America the Super Power has become its own worst enemy. Our complacency and unwillingness to move forward in this new age will destroy all we have inherited.

It is disrespectful to previous generations to squander what they worked hard, sacrificed, and fought to give us and immoral to pass on our gluttonous debts to generations that have yet to be born. Do you realize how easily our liberty can slip away?

Let 'er blow! Seriously I am all in favor of wind power and any other means to meet our energy needs without so much dependence on foreign oil. We already send too much money to some other part of the world. With less dependence on foreign oil and not have to spend so much on such we would have so much more funds available here at home to use for the betterment of all of our citizens.

As a propenent of wind, I still realize the major downfall of it:

1) One of the worst price/energy output ratios.

However, it is clean and renewable. Tidal energy might not be a bad idea out here with the currents off Hatteras.
