Although wind power, like solar power, is the most abundant, pollution free, renewable energy source on the planet, it remains one of the most untapped by the private sector. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a 400ft turbine outside your home in order to harness wind power for practical home use. Turbines are made in a variety of sizes to accommodate all types of home installation, and can even be used in urban settings.

In parts of the country where it is feasible to use wind power, it is not uncommon for someone to reduce their electricity bill by 50 - 90 percent. In fact, during the windiest parts of the year, one could produce a surplus of electricity and sell the excess back to the electric company!

Before deciding to take on installing a home wind turbine, it is important to make sure the average wind speed in your area is sufficient enough to produce the energy needed to offset your electricity usage.

What are the environmental effects of harvesting, refining, and burning natural gas? I know burning it produces water and apparently it is cleaner than other fossil fuels. Where are our natural gas deposits that are feasible to extract? What is the risk of environmental damage? I'm concerned that using natural gas will be an improvement over other fossil fuels, environmentally speaking, but may still cause damage, some or all of which may be irreversible in the short/medium terms (a few decades or less).

In order for us to achieve our goals we need to remove the good old boys club. Especially here in Rhode Island they are strong, loud, and very powerful. The simple rule I am urging everyone to follow when they vote is if you recognize the name or they are a career politician vote them out. We need young, honest, and reasonable individuals in these positions of city and state government to represent the people not the major corporations.

We pay more taxes than many regions of the country. These high taxes and poor legislation actions are a key factor in the economic failures of our state. The top salaries as reviewed in the RI Monthly set me back in my chair. Instead of raising taxes why don’t they reduce some of these outrageous salaries? The only salary in my opinion that was to low is the top officer of the RI state police.

Vote for real change send them packing.

PLEASE ATTEND TONIGHT's PANEL DISCUSSION in PROVIDENCE RI - we have excellent speakers in a position to move our region in the right direction!

Dr. Earle Scharff has put in weeks of hard work, and we need to support him AND PIckens Plan. A strong group will show them we mean business and want RI to move toward energy independance fast, AS WELL as finding out how we can help!

Look forward to meeting you!

I was listening to a news program which had Philippe Cousteau (Jaques Cousteau's grandson) on it
He answered a question about the oceans saying they are in danger and we need to take care of them I just missed what he said about energy from them.
Calls were accepted and there was a caller from Cape Cod who asked about the 100 wind turbines (not sure of what he called them) which will be there (they are on Horseshoe Shoal)
They will be bolted to the floor of the ocean. He wanted to know what he thought about them. Mr Cousteau answered that he was all for wind power and didn't know enough about the site to tell. Which is understandable in my view
Then a woman called who said she thought we should take care of ourselves first and then the ocean.
We get a lot from the ocean - water (it evaporates and we get it as rain), cooling, fish and other things we eat or use for our benefit. We need to take care of it as if it were the farm or garden out our back door.
It sounds like people still need to be educated on the resources we have.
Here is the web site for Cape Wind - the one off Cape Cod.

Happy Saturday, Everyone!

If you did not see the article yet in todays projo.com (Providence Journal).... WOW! A new Portsmouth, RI wind turbine is floating across Narragansett Bay and Quonset Point has a future in turbine manufacturing! Check it out.

Also, Save Wednesday, March 11th, from 7-9 pm at Moses Brown School, in Providence, for a Rhode Island Renewable Energy Forum, put together by Earle Scharff, RI-01! Please let us know if you can come. It would be so nice to meet everyone and keep pushing our state, and region, forward on the path to energy independance. I look forward to meeting you!

THANKS
Kim
