The GE plant here in Pensacola is manufacturing wind mills as fast as possible to send to Texas and Arizona wind farms. A question that is being discussed is how this area can become a center for wind energy technology.

How can small businesses become part of the big business?
How can we collaborate with GE?
What other alternate energy industry in in NW Florida?

Mark,

This is a great topic for discussion. Below are the examples I can think of -- off the top of my head -- for ways in which the local GE Wind tree has already economically branched:

- exports from Port of Pensacola
- hardware and fabricated parts and warehousing
- nose cone (spinner) assembly and repair (fiberglass, composites)
- nacelle warehousing and repair (fiberglass, composites)
- transportation industry: inbound, outbound (contributes to local economy via fuel buys, hotel/motel, local restaurants)
- use of local, qualified suppliers for direct and indirect material repairs
- purchase and/or lease from local suppliers for major goods and services (heavy equipment, facilities maintenance, &c)
