Oklahomans for Energy Independence

A group for Oklahoma residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Welcome to the Oklahomans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Oklahomans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Oklahoma.

If you have any ideas to share for organizing the support of the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Oklahomans group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Oklahomans to join the group.

Thanks,
Ross Flinton

I'm in OKC and anxious to get started. What, if any, functions will be held in this area? Going to Tulsa is not feasible for me, gas costs too damn much! I have a JD, can that provide any use with this endeavor?

Five to seven o'clock on the 26th works fine for me and my husband to meet in the OKC area. Bricktown is central, but would any of the places there be quiet enough to be able to hear each other? The Bricktown Brewery has rooms, but they will charge. What about the Panera on Meridian south of I-40? It shouldn't be too busy on a Sunday evening and it's still fairly central. Shorty Small's on Reno and Meridian also has a meeting room. Would you like me to check on that? Just a thought - do we want to meet someplace with wi-fi? I'm guessing there could be from 7 to 12 people.

As far as agenda, the suggestions that Phil Preston made earlier seem reasonable to me:
* introduce ourselves
* review the PickensPlan to make sure we are all hearing the same thing.
* a little familiarization on what is wind power, CNG for transportation
* ideas on how we can push the Plan
* Next action steps

Speaking for myself, I'm hardly an expert. Many of us may have a learning curve.

Glad to see that other OKC people are interested in a meeting on the 26th. Someone mentioned working on Saturday and earlier conflicts... so is perhaps 5pm to 7pm acceptable? Does anyone have suggestions for a location? I was thinking somewhere in Bricktown since that is a central location in the Metro, but please give any other ideas if you think that parking/crowds/etc will be too much to handle.

Agenda – Should we outline what we are going to discuss or is this going to be informal? Has an agenda been set for Tulsa yet that the OKC meeting could possibly follow?

Yard Signs - I am sending an e-mail to Pickens Plan tomorrow morning (Wed. 7-16) to ask (1) if they plan on producing any internally, and (2) if NOT, if they will possibly provide at least some artwork that we can have printed ourselves. Will follow up ASAP back on this board when I get a response.

I would be willing to do some signs, I will be at the meeting on the 26th. Give me your ideas on what you think we need.

We (my husband and I) would be interested in attending a meeting on the 26th. I have a conflict earlier in the day, but appetizers and cocktails would work. Anything further on signage? I'd be willing to contribute and to work at getting some placed.

I'm new to this plan, sounds great and I would like to see what I can do to support it. I'm a local pilot and can talk to some of my peers about going to a meeting or anything else we can do to help.

OKC meeting on the 26th sounds great.. and I'd be willing to throw in some money for yards signs

These are just random thoughts...

Is there any interest in setting up an Oklahoma City meeting in the near future? I would be very happy to attend a Pickens Plan meeting but simply cannot drive to Tulsa for a two-hour event.

I would love to see a meeting in Bricktown maybe on a Saturday, later in the afternoon. We could converse over appetizers and cocktails (or iced tea if you don't drink :)) Even the 26th - same day as the Tulsa meeting - might also be a good date for an OKC event. We could coordinate agendas here on the Web site beforehand and match the topics to be consistent with the Tulsa event.

Thoughts? Does that same 26th date work for those of you in OKC? Please sound off if you are interested in doing something here in OKC and we'll get the ball rolling. :)

ALSO... Is there any interest in seeing if we can perhaps get some yard signs or posters printed? Any idea if Pickens Plan is working on this right now? Can we find out if they are? If they aren't, would there be any interest in each of us chipping in a little bit of money to coordinate something like this amongst ourselves?

For those of us that cannot make that, whether it be work reasons or whatever, hopefully the meeting will be well documented so that we can catch what is going on. I would love to attend, but work all day on Saturdays. If there is a meeting in OKC soon, I will be more than willing to attend! Let's get this ball rolling. It would be wonderful to see the Great State of Oklahoma leading the way in this endeavour!!

A Tulsa meeting has been set up for 1-3pm at the 71st & Garnett Panera Bread Company. Hope to see you all there.
