Information

Oklahomans for Energy Independence

A group for Oklahoma residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Members: 139
Latest Activity: Dec 2

Welcome to the Oklahomans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Oklahomans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Oklahoma.

If you have any ideas to share for organizing the support of the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Oklahomans group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Oklahomans to join the group.

Thanks,
Ross Flinton

Sorry I can't attend the meeting on the 26th, but will try my best to attend the next one. Though I'm in the OKC area, I'll try my best to make it to Tulsa or OKC next time.

Sure hope someone will pass along a summary of the meeting. I'm an editor and writer, if I can help with any written communications.

I have talked with a few folks, and July 26 looks like it would be a good time for us all to get together and get acquainted. I have reserved a meeting room at the Panera at 71st and Garnett from 1-3PM. If you want to come a little early and have lunch, I will be there at 11:30.

Since I have absolutely no idea of how many may show up, I told them to expect 10-15. For those who cannot come, this will be just the first meeting. We will schedule the next, possibly in OKC.

I would suggest the following agenda:

* introduce ourselves
* review the PickensPlan to make sure we are all hearing the same thing.
* a little familiarization on what is wind power, CNG for transportation
* ideas on how we can push the Plan
* Next action steps

If anyone has other thoughts let me know.

I am posting this on all the Oklahoma groups so we can get everyone connected.

See you on the 26th.

1. We need : a national standards for all states to be enact for net metering and that standards include 2 MW limitation on size. 25 kW to 100 kW will not allow business and industries to address their power requirements.

2. We need: The ability of community solar and wind farms to allow companies, homeowner to park their renewable machines and allow for net metering activities to occur instead on the premise. This would allow for orderly grid management of distributed energy systems.

3. We Need a compressive incentive program much like the Europeans but different. We need 50 Billion energy trust to be managed by the states for incentive either tax credits or rebates that can allow individuals, businesses and industries to adopt the renewable energy technology.
4. We have the technology today for wind and solar. Private venture funds are funding all type of systems and technology. With advent of 50% solar conversion efficiency by University of Delaware and MIT new organic dyes systems. the ball game is about to change. We need to support the DOE 10 Billion loan guarantee program already enacted. We need to pass the new SBIR and STTR program to provide 300K for phase I and 2.1 M for Phase II projects and national goal of 2 Billion for SBIR and STTR programs.

5. We need a real incentive for American to drive different cars manufactured in America by American, We need a Federal Tax credit that support high gas mileage cars and as the gas mileages increases the higher the tax credits.
6. Finally, we need to enact 10 year Production Tax Credit for wind, solar and other renewable energy. We stop the "stop and Go" policy of the past congresses.

Pickens' Plan in Tulsa:
If we could get a head count for a Tulsa meeting, I could get a room booked at Mazzio's at The Farm (51st & Sheridan). One room comfortably seats 20 and the other could hold 30. I would suggest an off-peak hour like mid-afternoon.

Ross, You should try to see if Mr. Pickens would come to your meeting and try to schedule it in OKC or Tulsa around his schedule. I know that he is really busy, but if you combine a meeting with the Cowboys group, maybe T. Boone himself could attend. This could maybe be your 2nd meeting after the 26th! You could plan it even for Fall before the first football game when he might be in town anyway.
