According to a Bulletin (sort of trend forecaster from European perspective) issued out of Cannes, France, the collapse will come "before summer 2009" because the U.S. can no longer make payments on its national debt. According to "Lettre Confidentielle de LEAP/E2020" the US economy, now in deep recession, will collapse. The resulting lack of tax revenues will make it impossible for the federal government to pay even the interest on its ten trillion dollar national debt.

As unemployment rises this is certainly within the realm of possibility. I am hoping that we come through it though.
