With almost 200 million inhabitants Brazil is about 2/3 the size of United States in population. But it is much poorer and has a lot less clout than United States. So,

Why Brazilians can use natural gas, gasoline and ethanol (100%) in their cars and we can't have the same in America? By the way, those cars are American brands, such as Ford and GM.

You can see some proof visiting this site http://www.curbappealofpalmbeach.com/nvgphotos.htm

Brazil is now oil independent because one day, right after the 1973 oil embargo, the Brazilian government mandated the development of the ethanol industry to provide a way to escape the high cost of oil worldwide.

They succeeded because of 3 things.

1 – They already produced lots of sugar and their sugar mills were almost stopping because the world prices of sugar were too low. It was a way to revitalize their sugar industry.

2 – Because their international debt was the largest in the world then. They simply had no credit to buy oil.

3 – Although the Ethanol was highly subsidized (at the time the cost to produce ethanol was twice that of gasoline), it had two advantages.
- It kept billions of dollars within the economy (stopping the export of capital) and
- It provided employment for millions of poor Brazilians.

Do you see any similarities with America, and particularly Florida, today?

We need to halt the export of capital and we need to create jobs.

South Florida already is the largest producer of sugar in the US because sugar cane will grow almost anywhere. Why don’t we use these already existent facilities to process ethanol from sugar cane, which makes a lot more sense than from corn?

The technology already exists to produce, to distribute, to use in cars, buses, ships, etc....

So, what are we going to do about it?
