The Picken's Plan campaign turned me on to the severity of the energy-based economic crisis America faces and I started doing a little research on my own energy use. Sticking with the traditional electricity provider and plan in my area turned out to be more expensive and much more dirty and bad for the country than other options available.

I was shocked when I investigated my electricity options and found that in my area I could actually buy 100% Wind Energy from another electric company for less than my previous plan.

A similar experience on a larger scale confirmed to me that I was not alone in my ignorance on this issue: Houston Texas recently signed an agreement to purchase wind power for 25% of the city's operational electric needs. The deal is estimated to by city leaders to result in millions of city savings. When questioned, some of those same leaders said they did not use wind power or didn't know where their own power came from.

Imagine the impact if renewable energy supporters in mass would take the initiative to change how their own homes are powered.

Increasing awareness and consumer demand could kick this plan into overdrive and help us reach energy independence even faster.
