The Declaration of USA Energy Independence
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to improve the conditions which restrain them from gaining energy independence among the powers of the earth, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should search for changes which improve their situation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights in a modern economy a diligent and ongoing effort must be initiated for short-term, medium-term, and long-term USA Energy Independence solutions. It is the Right of the People to alter, improve, invent and search and institute the means to progress in a positive and diligent manner towards USA Energy Independence by, laying its foundation on such technologies, processes, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect the forward progress in the pursuit of USA Energy Independence. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that methods and technologies long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly recent experience has shown that the citizens of the United States are victims to the transgression of inertia and lack of leadership in initiating needed progress. When a long train of abuses and lack of leadership, pursuing invariably the same Objects evinces a design to impede, reduce or even strangle the progress towards the realizations of USA Energy Independence, it is their right; it is their duty, to disavow such inefficiency and to provide a means of progressing to assure their future USA Energy Independence security. — Such has been sufferance of the citizens of the United States; and such is now the necessity which requires them to join in a concentrated effort toward USA Energy Independence. The history of the present is a dismal search for USA Energy Independence. It is a history of repeated inaction and a continuance of comfortable redundancy; all having a direct impact in the establishment of an injurious economic situation over the people of the Untied States that will jeopardize Life Liberty, and pursuit of happiness. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid audience.
There is a reduction to the Assent to Laws relative to new energy sources that are, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
Both political parties have failed to provide the leadership needed to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance.
Since the last energy crisis no president has had the foresight or the leadership to lead the people of the United States towards energy independence.
Some political action groups and some green groups have fractionalized the effort to move to USA Energy Independence espousing simplistic remedies without considering the complexity of altering or changing existing energy infrastructure systems and developing new ones.
Many corporations involved in traditional and/or new or alternative energy sources have been more interested in their own future than the future of the USA Energy Independence.
There has been little effort among the leadership, the political parties, activists, and the people to coherently focus on the impending energy crisis and develop short term, medium term and ultimately long term plans that provide a direction for USA Energy Independence.

We the people have petition for Redress in the most humble terms: Previous Petitions have been answered only by repeated inactivity. Leadership whose character is thus marked by a do-nothing attitude must be awakened or new leaders voted in before the consequences of Energy dependence are injurious to our nation.
We as a people were first warned during the Arab oil embargo and have done nothing. Except for patronizing and degrading posturing there have been few attempts by our political leaders to extend focused and continuing efforts in developing USA Energy Independence. Now in the early 21st century we are again reminded of the consequences of dependency for energy that lies vast distances from our shores and is controlled by governments who may or may not be friendly to the United States. Our leaders have chosen for the most part to ignore these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our economy and jeopardize our way of life. They have been deaf to the voice of USA Energy Independence
We, therefore, as the concerned people, business and political leaders, appeal to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions. That we believe we ought to be USA Energy Independent, that we act in order to plan, develop, and initiate a comprehensive plan using current and developing energy sources, technologies and infrastructures to levy War against USA energy dependence. , to do all other Acts and Things which prudent people may do. — And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other to band together supporting the cause of Energy Independence.

And while you are at it pressure John Stossel of ABC. Below is a rebuttal I wrote to John Stossel's opinion piece "The Idiocy of Energy Independence." I believe Stossel is so off base on this one, those who believe energy independence is worth discussing and working toward suggest to Stossel who the idiot is.

Hi John,
I usually agree with your opinions, but in this case you are way off base.
Your economic arguments are valid only for cheap energy.
When oil rises in cost as it will continue to do long term, then alternative forms of energy become economically viable.
In your argument you talk about Carter and the calls for energy independence by he and other presidents. However, you don't discuss the Arab Oil Embargo which caused double digit inflation, high unemployment and long lines at gas pumps.
The Arab Oil embargo occurred when this nation was only importing about 30% of its oil needs, and the embargo only affected a drop of imports of about 5% of the total oil we consumed.
Now, the United States imports approximately 70% of its oil and over 40% of that comes from unstable or unfriendly places such as the Middle East, Nigeria and Venezuela.

Imagine, what the results will be if suddenly oil was reduced by 5 percent because of a terrorist, man made, or a natural catastrophe in one of those areas.

I don't need to imagine. I remember the 1970's vividly and using that as a model I shudder to think what can happen if we don't work towards energy independence.
