Some people were requesting information about filling natural gas vehicles and the difficulty in finding filling stations. I am enclosing a link to a company that provides this equipment that installs on your natural gas line.

www.myphill.com

I have not investigated this company or their products.

The best way for Rural Americans (or at least farmers) to move towards Energy Independance is to reduce use of phosphorus fertilizer. I've studied some yield charts and the increased yield that they promise has actually come down since the 80s, at least compared to how much use has increased since then.
Also, figuring out how to grow more food with less energy (at least non renewable) would be great.

I’m over in Charlotte on Agency biz. Had a few minutes to check e-mails.

I agree w/ TBP. Wind farming seems to also be a good biz. opportunity currently.

I was out at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) in Denver , CO on May 1. They’re working jointly with the other National Labs, including Llivermore and ORNL Was out there for a few days to review their cellulosic ethanol research and production facility and also went up to tour their wind energy lab at Golden. USDA and DOE are pouring a lot into research in both renewable energy areas.

USDA, through NREL is aggressively pushing a renewable energy program. NREL is currently the world leader in cellulosic ethanol R&D. Their finished product is pretty similar to TN sipping whiskey before they add 15% gasoline to keep it out of peoples throats. Cellulosic ethanol will rapidly get us away from using grain for bioreactor feedstocks. USDA/DOE/University of TN just broke ground on a small cellulosic ethanol plant near Athens, TN. Should be ready in ~ 2 years. Corn farms near the plant site are currently being converted to switch grass. Was down at U.T.’s Experiment Station in Spring Hill last week and learned that they’re readying to plant switch grass there too. I’d hate to be an investor in the corn-based ethanol plants that have sprung up in the last 5 years. Congress really screwed up on the grain for ethanol decision a few years ago. Cellulosic ethanol is still not competitive w/ gasoline, but very close. Current wholesale cost is about $2.65/gallon. Need to get down to ~$2.03/gallon wholesale to compete w/ gas…as of May 1, which was before the May/June bid up in crude futures. NREL expects to be there in 2 years or less. They’ll hold the patents, but will share the technology.

We are a husband and wife in our 50's. We want a change badly and are willing to work hard (and spend) towards a change. We are replacing our roof and will install a solar system when that is done. We are rural WITH NO covenants so wind power in our area is an option. We live in a valley where the wind funnels nicely.

The goal of an energy independent nation will be more painful for some than others. We are willing to shoulder our share and then some. This is what makes our nation so splendid.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for taking the lead and creating a group. This is exactly what we are going to need to sustain this campaign and realize its goals.

My name's Brett and I'm the Director of Online Organizing for PickensPlan. I want to be as helpful as possible in making this group work for you, and coordinating with the rest of the campaign.

Here's a link to a discussion on tips for a successful group:

That's a great place to start. Also, feel free to send me a message at Brett@PickensPlan.com at any time. Let me know what I can do to help you out in the coming days and weeks. I look forward to working with you.

Brett.

Ok, here we are......Please review the information Mr. Pickens has placed on the site. It will make you see things differently. I want to support this program by starting a common effort by people who are effected by the gas prices. Remember, if we limit oil by 12 percent we change OPEC's pricing guidelines and structure a forced change. The only way we can do this is by finding alternative sources.
