About This Group

The Pickens Plan has been on Twitter since launching in early July and we’ve recruited over 2,800 followers in that time. It is a great start, but we can do better. This group is about ways we can use Twitter to spread the word about the Pickens Plan.

Here are the steps we can take to help grow the number:

(1) Follow the Pickens Plan on Twitter – http://www.twitter.com/pickensplan

(2) Send out a tweet from your own account encouraging your network to follow @pickensplan.

(3) Join this group and leave a comment on this group’s wall letting me know your Twitter name. I’ll post a list of Push members on Twitter so that we can all connect with each other.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions.

And or those of you not familiar with Twitter, it’s a micro-blogging platform that allows you to send out messages of 140 characters or less. Think of it as a sticky note message you can leave for everyone to read. You can also post links to pictures, article, and blogs. Check it out.

I think that it would be nice if we all had a visual aid to show to people when we try to educate them about the potential of natural gas as a cleaner, abundant, domestic energy source and one which can serve as a bridge to a green energy economy.

I found a documentary film, just released a short time ago, that does all these things. It profiles the lives of people in the Haynesville Louisiana area after the find of massive gas deposits there. It also uses a group of experts in the areas of energy and the environment to flesh out all of the things that we have been saying about natural gas. Many of the comments sound like things Boone has been saying since last year...

I think that one important aspect of this film is that it illustrates how the lives of ordinary people can be enriched, both financially and in a social sense, when our energy dollars are spent here at home.

Yes, the film focuses on Natural Gas but the concepts it illustrates can easily translate to solar or wind energy or the green energy economy in general. Since renewable energy generation as illustrated by the distributed generation model tend to be spread over the whole country rather than being concentrated in specific areas the economic benefits they bring to communities will also be spread out in the same way.

I am thinking that Army members could use the film to hold screenings for their friends/family/governement representatives/community, etc. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and so a film must be worth a million, lol

Many Army members have told me that they don't know what to say to people or things of that nature and a film like this does the talking for you. At the moment I am working to bring the film to Plan members but I thought I would put this up so you can go have a look at the film website and trailer at least.

The release date for DVD sales on the Haynesville film is going to be January 16th and that seems to be a pretty firm date.

I wish that members would have had this film to use last year... I can foresee people using it to have home screenings for friends and family as well as showing it at schools, church and business groups and local and state politicians' offices.

The film will be showing at the Copenhagen Energy Summit as one of the films that were invited to show in conjunction with the Summit. In the film scientists, environmentalists and energy people all say the same things that Boone has been saying since the beginning and it shows how the lives of everyday people have been improved by keeping our energy dollars here at home. All of the good things that happen in the film would never have happened without American energy.

It is time to revitalize our efforts and this film will be a great weapon in our little war against apathy and downright stupidity. Remember, American Energy = American Jobs!

In the few weeks leading up to the film being available on DVD I would like to work to devise a plan for getting the film out in each state. Independent films don't usually get a lot of coverage in the mainstream press so it will be up to grassroots activists like us to make sure that people see it :-)
