This Group favors the inclusion of conservation education in K-12 core curriculum; and a painless way for the Federal Government to provide State Education departments with subsidies earmarked for that purpose by ROUNDING-UP gas prices .1 of a cent.

T. BOONE ROUND-UP

Since Boone has access and implied support in the Washington beltway and the Stimulus package already includes aspects in support of America’s energy independence, conservation and the development of clean energy options…how about suggesting this…

The premise would be that as part of the new administrartions Energy Independence Plan that gas prices be ROUNDED-UP one tenth of a cent and that the proceeds are earmarked for energy conservation education in our nationwide schools from K-12.

After all, no one really thinks of $1.79.9 as anything other than a dollar eighty. It would simplify the math at the pump and the accumulation of dollars nationwide could be distributed to State Education budgets and provide a significant contribution to the objective of decreasing our energy dependence by introducing conservation techniques in our early education core curriculum. As Boone stated during his meeting with Owens-Corning, conservation is the cream in our efforts toward energy independence. It may be that school children will be reminding their parents to turn off the lights and then teach their children how to accomplish what we adults have thus far failed to learn.

Here are some interesting numbers:

*Just for example, daily gasoline consumption in the USA in 2007 was 390 Million Gallons x .001 = $390,000.00 x 365 Days = $142,350,000.00. In long hand that’s ONE HUNDRED FORTY TWO MILLION THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS a year which would be allocated toward early education for conservation with kids between the age of 5 and 18. It sounds to me like enough money to educate a few adults along the way…

The Feds already collect approximately 18.4 cents on every gallon, so the reporting and collection infrastructure is already in place. They would just need to separate a tenth of a cent to an Energy Conservation Early Education Fund.

Consumers wouldn’t really feel it, and may be happy to dispose of this enigmatic penchant for a discount store mentality when it comes to gas pricing. The visibility and historic nature of even pricing will be a daily reminder to generations of consumers that they are contributing to our Energy Independence, National Security and a Healthier Planet with every gallon they buy. Getting rid of the .9 is a good thing all around.

I am grateful and proud to be a member of the Pickens Plan. We have assembled an army without uniforms, guns or bombs. Our weapon is our relentless determination to conserve the energy we produce, develop new clean alternatives and end our dependence on foreign imports.

In referencing our ability to solve the unprecedented problems at hand, President Obama has passionatley proclaimed YES WE CAN. With Boone’s leadership, influence, resources and the perspective of his long experience on the ground…he has clarified the reality…which is YES WE MUST!

BOONE, your army is with you. We can’t imagine a better legacy for any man.

With great appreciation,

Great idea Joe! Heck, I'd settle for $100,000. That would pay off debts and start a small alt-energy business.

Dan...good analogy....Joseph...my Great Grandson sends a THANK YOU note. I put it in his TARP payback bank account...now if I can only find another 10 Mil he may be able to stay in school up to the 4th grade before I give him my job as a Walmart Greeter. IDEAS anyone?

Joseph, You're a genius! I love it. ...Well, I do. I don't think it would have the effect we want but I still love it. But keep thinking. Maybe you'll come up with something that would work and still be delightful.

I like this stimulus package. Give $1,000,000 to every man, woman and child. It would cost less than the current expenditure. What could you do with a stimulus like that?

Hi John, I know just how you feel. I'd like to close 'em all down and maybe we should but sometimes it may be like removing a vital organ and expecting the patient to go on living. I'm discussing suing Detroit in a Group with that name "Sue Detroit" with the sole objective of removing the top / guiding executives so as to keep the company running but with new management so that they become responsive to the need of the economy for fuel efficient and alternative fuel vehicles.. It won't work to beat the alcholic for his bad liver until he dies. Let's just give him a liver transplant and make sure the patient is under new management so he stops drinking alcohol. (All that is easier to do when the patient and the organs are really different people.)

I don't think this is jUSt about AMerIca...this is about the World...the Species...I believe it's time to really look at the BIGger picture...we..WE..have to jump up to a new paradigm....stop with this competitiveness....Co-Operate Spaceship Earth....Unless the sickness of Greed is cured and WE put our wonderful minds and unlimited potential to work we will find our place soon sharing space with the remains of the dinosaurs of yore.

Ive read recently about pulling companies' business charters...closing them down ....all these entities that gambled with the World's economic and financial Health need to be held accountable...and not rewarded for the disaster thy have brought upon US all....These past 8 years have set a bad example and precedent for BAD behavior in the public sector...It's an infectious disease that must be quelled...Do we reward bank robbers for their crimes?....One does not need a Ph.D. to see that this mortgage related derivative disaster was a set up from the get go 8 years ago...those who took those mortgages and over leveraged themselves were hapless dupes and pawns in a very LARGE conspiracy Ponzi scheme to rob the National treasuries of, not jUSt this country, but those of the World at large...

Thank you Robert...I didn't wait and went immediately...so I've joined...and thanks for doing the link thing, it'll make it easier for others to quickly join...I think the Feds should by pass this bank thing and instead of handing over all these funds to the culprits to sit on and squander...they should set up a National Grant and lending program to get this alternative energy and infrastructure program rolling ....PRONTO!!!!....If they haven't noticed....Rome IS Burning!!! We so desperately need a citizen's bucket brigade to douse this conflagration that is threatening to consume not jUSt US but the entire World...

Sure John,
I forgot about the hyperlink button when posting.

Here's the Building for America agenda page...

Building America's Future: Statement of Principles
Whereas: the United States will not remain economically competitive with nations that are investing heavily in infrastructure unless we maintain and improve our infrastructure;

Whereas: the federal government’s share of public investment in transportation, water, and other types of infrastructure has declined to the point where state and local governments account for three out of every four public dollars being spent on infrastructure in the United States;

Whereas: the United States has, in the past, recognized that infrastructure investment is a key stimulus for short-term economic growth and job creation that also yields long-term benefits;

Whereas: the United States cannot achieve energy independence, environmental sustainability, or greenhouse gas reductions without making fundamental changes to federal infrastructure policy to address those goals;

Whereas: as state and local leaders, we witness first-hand how important infrastructure is to the safety, security and quality of life of our citizens and communities;

Now, therefore, Building America’s Future resolves to advocate for federal infrastructure investment guided by the following principles:

• Vision: The federal government needs to advance a new national vision for infrastructure policy that focuses on economic growth and global competitiveness, creation of economic opportunity for all Americans, and environmental sustainability.

• Funding: The federal government must provide significantly greater resources to ensure that the nation’s infrastructure needs can be met without placing undue burdens on states and localities or on future generations of Americans.

• Merit and Accountability: U.S. infrastructure investment should be based on merit and accountability at all levels of government. The federal government should fund programs and projects that advance national priorities, and states and localities should be held accountable for ensuring that projects are completed on time, on budget, and meet rigorous performance standards.

• Streamlining and Innovation: The federal government should streamline bureaucratic processes and allow greater flexibility to enable states and localities to use federal infrastructure funds quickly, efficiently and effectively, and to leverage innovative approaches to financing infrastructure investments, consistent with the national vision.

• Urgency: The new Administration should make developing a new national infrastructure policy a top priority and immediately call on Congress and the federal agencies to implement this policy.
