A winery in Humboldt is now off the grid with a solar and Bethel University is adding a new science lab powered by solar and wind. Tennessee is slowly coming around. It will take efforts like these to keep up the public awareness.

I emailed Governor Bredesen about the Pickens Plan. Here is his response:

Thank you for your message expressing your support for the plan that T. Boone Pickens has advanced for a comprehensive alternative energy policy for the United States. I share your interest in solving the issues associated with the cost, availability and environmental impacts of energy. The plan that Mr. Pickens has presented merits very serious attention, and I expect to review it thoroughly.

My administration is already working to produce a well-grounded,
effective and achievable energy policy for Tennessee. To that end, I recently issued an Executive Order establishing the "Governor's Task Force on Energy Policy." The Task Force is charged with identifying:

* Opportunities for state government to lead by example in
energy efficiency and conservation in our state-owned
buildings and vehicles.
* Prospective policies, legislation, regulations or incentive to
encourage statewide energy efficiency and conservation in
public and private sectors.
* Possible public-private partnerships and collaborations to
encourage research and development of clean-energy
technology and to increase the economic development
potential of the state's energy sector.
* Strategies for expanding the use of alternative fuels and
renewable energy resources to support the sustainability of
Tennessee's environment.

Tennessee is positioned to be a leader in the development of regional and national energy solutions that can provide economic and environmental benefits to our citizens. The Task Force is scheduled to deliver its state energy plan to me by December 1, 2008, and I am confident that our state will meet this challenge. I appreciate your comments and your support.

Warmest regards,
Phil Bredesen

This plan is proof that entrepreneurism and capitalism can create real solutions with out having to sacrifice freedom and liberty. America doesn't need to be forced into flawed treatys like Kyoto to do it's part in the world. In fact, I would bet that soon America will be leading the way in green energy and doing it without sacrificing our economy and way of life. We can show the world that capitalism doesn't need to be beaten up in order create change. In fact, capitalism and not socialism is the greatest engine to drive change that benefits everyone. This plan is proof.

Renewable Energy Advocates,

If you have two minutes please call Senator Alexander and Senator Corker to ask them to pass S. 3335 today. his bill included the essential PTC/ITC tax credit extensions for our clean energy businesses throughout Tennessee.

Tell them that:
With solar and wind manufacturers and installers from Bob Senator’s hometown of Chattanooga to the Mississippi delta, TN’s clean energy businesses are poised for record growth, yet without the extensions, estimates are that $19 billion in clean energy projects will be canceled and we are concerned that some of those projects will be here in TN.

Our nations governors our concerned about these extensions, too: 52 governors — including Governor Bredesen — sent an open letter to House and Senate leaders urging that these tax credits are extended:

This is probably our last chance to pass these critical tax credits for renewable energy.

Senator Lamar Alexander call (202) 224-4944
Senator Bob Corker call (202)-224-3344

Talking Points
Hi, my name is [--NAME--], I live in [--CITY--], Tennessee
I am calling to let Senator Alexander/Corker know that I support clean energy and urge her to demonstrate his support for clean energy as well by voting YES on S. 3335.
Here in Tennessee, these tax credits will continue to support our clean energy businesses and an efficient energy economy.
I am among the 85 percent of U.S. citizens that support the continuation of federal tax credits according to a recent Zogby International survey.
I urge you to work with your colleagues to extend these crucial tax incentives now before heading home for the August recess.
Thank you for your time.
