Texans for Energy Independence

Information

Texans for Energy Independence

A group for Texas residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Texas
Members: 997
Latest Activity: Oct 10

Welcome to the Texans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Texans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Texas.

If you have ideas to share for organizing to support the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Texas group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Texans to join the group.

I have started a list of Useful links for the group. If you have one to add let me know.

Question - has anyone designed a dual home system for wind and solar, which complement each other perfectly, so that a farm need not be connected to the grid?

Hey Folks,

Thanks for taking the lead and creating a group. This is exactly what we are going to need to sustain this campaign and realize its goals.

My name's Brett and I'm the Director of Online Organizing for PickensPlan. I want to be as helpful as possible in making this group work for you, and coordinating with the rest of the campaign.

Here's a link to a discussion on tips for a successful group:

That's a great place to start. Also, feel free to send me a message at Brett@PickensPlan.com at any time. Let me know what I can do to help you out in the coming days and weeks. I look forward to working with you.

Brett.

I'm on board with doing SOMETHING to move forward. I look forward to hearing how we can transition away from the black milk of oil we've been nursing for so long. Will there be products to hel raise awareness and capital (t-shirts, stickers, etc.)?

Texas has always been innovative and been willing to lead. This country has got to become energy independent. Conservation, alternative energy all facets will need to play a part. There is not one solution it is all of the above.

I would like to propose the following as a basic Texans for Energy Independence platform, but I wanted to get feedback first:

The Pickens Plan should be promoted and both Republican and Democratic candidates and office holders should be pressured to support the plan.

Investment in renewable sources of energy, particularly wind and solar which are abundant in Texas, should be encouraged through public policy at the local, state and national level as well as public awareness. The level of investment needed is enormous in scale and needs to start immediately.

Energy conservation and energy efficiency should be encouraged at the local, state and national level through public policy and public awareness. (should specific initiatives be mentioned? public transportation, recycling, sustainable building etc.)

Fossil fuel based resources in Texas should be invested in insofar as such resources can be developed in a manner that balances environmental concerns against the need for energy independence and with the recognition that fossil fuels are a temporary solution until renewable sources of energy can supply the majority of US energy needs.
