Texans for Energy Independence

Information

Texans for Energy Independence

A group for Texas residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Texas
Members: 997
Latest Activity: Oct 10

Welcome to the Texans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Texans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Texas.

If you have ideas to share for organizing to support the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Texas group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Texans to join the group.

I have started a list of Useful links for the group. If you have one to add let me know.

Using Wind, Solar and Geothermal to produce Hydrogen from water to make Amercia energy independent

America must have energy independence and energy security. Money is power and America cannot afford to send all of its money to the Middle East, thus giving up our power. American money is being used to fund our enemies. America cannot allow its enemies to be emboldened, to become rich and powerful, nor can we allow countries like Iran to black mail us (or the world) by threatening the straits of Hormuz. Economic power is what America can loose by not being self sufficient with respect to energy. Our mighty military machine also is threatened by not having the economic and energy independence we once had. The Pickens Plan shows America the way to maintain our position of world leadership and allows us to lead by example. Our future and that of our children depend upon its success. America’s future depends on this plan succeeding. The global climate change is being driven by greenhouse gases and we must change that for our children, for the wildlife, and for our very existence as a species on this planet. Too many politicians have ignored these facts and too many leaders failed to lead based on these facts. WE the American business people must take action; stop the mindless rhetoric and pointless debates. We must cause real change to occur. We must drive actual change by doing. This project is a great beginning. In the early 60’s President John F. Kennedy issued a profoundly positive and world changing challenge to the American people. He challenged us to put men on the moon and safely return them home by the end of the decade. America rose to that challenge successfully. Today America faces an even greater challenge but our leaders have failed to inspire us with such a challenge. So therefore I challenge you to put America on the course of changing our energy platforms to wind, solar and geothermal. I challenge America to get off of risky foreign oil that pollutes or planet and onto hydrogen whose production from water can be powered by these pollution free sources. We have the technology; we just lack the will and the actions to do it. The German automaker BMW and the Japanese automaker Honda have both had hydrogen combustion engine cars for about 5 years. This year BMW is giving away 100 hydrogen power vehicles to celebrities, industry leaders, and notable people to help get everyone onboard with the idea. Honda has fuel cell cars that use hydrogen. Hydrogen production from water needs wind, solar and geothermal energy (your core projects) to power it. A Distribution network is key and we must get the gas stations to offer natural gas and hydrogen to consumers. American automakers must switch over their cars to natural gas and hydrogen, thus keeping high paying American jobs here, helping the economy here, the environment globally and reducing our dependency on foreign oil. I challenge America to lead the world by example. I challenge America to make the switch happen not in 10 years but in 5 years. We can do it. We must do it and we shall do it. Thank you Mr. Pickens for leading the way and for rising to provide America with wise leadership. You are an inspiration to us all and I sincerely thank you.

I agree with you Cindy about Natural Gas. I wish the Pickens plan also stressed solar power more, even though it is a few years behind wind in terms of economics. Many of the semiconductor companies that have design and fabrication facilities around Austin are moving into the PV market.

I'm in East Texas and we are experiencing a "boom" in the production of natural gas. I am very excited about the plan and I hope more people get behind the it and help the cause. Using natural gas is not the final solution but it is a great bridge until we can have the ultimate source of fuel for our vehicles.

I'm grateful that Boone has chosen to invest a large chunk of his wind energy investment here in Texas. I have always believed that it was possible to transition to renewable energy without stifling economic growth and the profit Pickens reaps from his Texas investment will hopefully prove that out and encourage additional investment in alternative energy in Texas.
