Texans for Energy Independence

Information

Texans for Energy Independence

A group for Texas residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Texas
Members: 997
Latest Activity: Oct 10

Welcome to the Texans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Texans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Texas.

If you have ideas to share for organizing to support the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Texas group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Texans to join the group.

I have started a list of Useful links for the group. If you have one to add let me know.

Nothing unfriendly about using USA energy resources and buying and building wind farm and solar farm equip made in the USA for use in the USA and to be sold overseas. Domestic energy production, local USA jobs, and money kept here in America for Americans. Give up the gas guzzler and go CNG (Honda Civic).

Texas energy sources need be considered before foreign. Energy independence begins here at home not in the Middle East or in a board room in NY or London

How T. Boone Pickens and The "Pickens Plan" Could Make You Rich By Investing in Green Stocks

T. Boone Pickens owns 40% of a company called Clean Energy Fuels Corp. ( NASDAQ:CLNE ). This is a company that provides natural gas for vehicle fleets in the U.S. and Canada. CLNE designs, builds, finances, and operates the fueling stations.

T. Boone Pickens owns 12% of Westport Innovations, Inc. ( NASDAQ:WPRT ) a leading developer of environmental technologies that enable vehicles to operate on clean-burning alternative fuels.

WRPT works with global automotive leaders such as Cummins Inc., Ford, and BMW to incorporate their technologies into leading manufacturers engines and to explore future commercial opportunities for clean vehicles.

Pickens’ new company, Mesa Water, has been buying up ground water rights in Roberts County, Texas - 200,000 acres in all. He says that over a 30-year period, he expects to make more than $1 billion on his investment of $75 million.

Many others are coming to the realization that water is too cheap. Hence, water rights are a great buy today.

As an individual investor, you can’t trade water rights very easily. But you can invest in a company that owns almost as much water as Pickens does – in actuality, the acre feet that this Company owns are more valuable than what Pickens purchased.

PICO Holdings, Inc., ( NASDAQ:PICO ) together with its subsidiaries, engages in the ownership and development of real estate properties. It owns land and the related mineral rights and water rights in Nevada. The company is involved in water resource development business, such as developing new sources of water for water utilities, municipalities, developers, or industrial users. In addition, PICO Holdings engages in the acquisition and financing of businesses. It operates in the United States and Europe. The company was founded in 1981 and is based in La Jolla, California.

T. Boone Pickens thinks he'll earn $1 billion on his $76 million investment - or basically 13 times his money. PICO - already in this business, with substantial expertise and a portfolio of more valuable water rights - could do even better.

I'm sure many of us watched the debate last night. I noticed both candidates used language that was obviously taken directly from the Pickens Plan. Terminology, phrases, etc; why can't either candidate say outright "We have to adopt the Pickens Plan and run with it"?

Senator McCain hit the nail right on the head; we're Angry, Frustrated, and Worried. Hey Congress; pull your collective thumbs out and get "on the stick".

From reading the comments below I see we all received the same canned response from Senator Hutchison. I understand she is taking a look at running for Govenor of Texas. She will have to get a serious energy plan or there is no reason for her to even attempt a run. Why is it so hard for a candidate to give specifics? If they want to lead, they must tell us how they will lead us to energy independence.
Steve Newsome Comment by Steve Newsome on October 6, 2008 at 7:46pm
In the past, in another matter, Senator Hutchison was of great help to me personally. However, her response to me as well (a simple mail merge) is, to put it graciously, extremely disheartening. As I am writing this on the first day of trading after the passage of the fiasco bailout, it is MORE clear that we MUST enact the Picken's Plan ASAP. We are currently constructing wind turbines here in South TX; it is the most expedient way to decrease our dependence and redirect the exodus of our nation's equity. Every method of The Plan should be "on the table" but we MUST start now. We must start now with the most productive form of renewable energy, wind generation. If we actively and aggressively started tomorrow nationwide, the collapse of our economy would be much shorter lived. All of our representatives MUST get onboard or "get out of the way".
Coy Comment by Coy on October 6, 2008 at 6:55pm
I received the canned same message. However, at least there was a response from her. The other legislators didn't even send a form letter like she did. What is most perplexing about this election is that none of the legislators seems to be taking a vested interest in Picken’s Plan, when so much of our future hinges on oil independence. During this election every one running for office acts as if off shore drilling is the answer, when America could be free of oil or at least on the brink, by the time the first drop of off shore oil to available. I hop the next President moves us forwards. This is really scary.
