Texans for Energy Independence

A group for Texas residents supporting clean, affordable power and energy independence.

Location: Texas
Members: 997
Latest Activity: Oct 10

Welcome to the Texans for Energy Independence group page. I started this group to connect Texans who share my concern for our energy security. Hopefully by combining our voices we can influence the presidential candidates in this election as well as local politicians here in Texas.

If you have ideas to share for organizing to support the Pickens plan or ways to improve the Texas group please post a comment to the group comment wall or start a forum thread. Please feel free to invite other Texans to join the group.

I have started a list of Useful links for the group. If you have one to add let me know.

I live in Lubbock TX. I found out that all my reps have voted against wind, solar and other renewables 100% of the time. They have received hundreds of thousasnds of dollors from big oil in campaign contributions and only push the more drilling agenda.
I started a group called Inexpensive Clean Energy where I posted links to legislative directory, voting history, find out how much money they received from big oil ,issues up for vote, contact congress and house reps, gas taxes in your state, green jobs, etc...
check it out, find out what your rep voted for or against and write him/her join the group and tell a friend. Thank you
together we can make change. this is an election year. Texans unite.

I just found and joined this group.

To introduce myself, I welcome everyone to check out my Pickens Plan page. I have collected and posted some interesting formation and Texas energy independence relevant material.

I would also like to ask a question of the group.

I have no option available to me to go with any form of grid tied power generation. The reasons are because of the local Fort Belknap Electric Cooperative and I've detailed the reasons on my Pickens Plan page that I have linked to above.

To be energy self sufficient, my only option would be a grid isolated system which adds the additional burden that it would need to provide full load power 100% of the time. One option that I want to explore is a multi-fuel piston engine generator.

Can anyone please recommend a manufacturer of generator systems designed and intended for 24 hour a day 365 days a year operation. All that I have been able to find are either small portable generator sets or larger standby systems intended for utility power failures.

I have searched for Combined Heat and Power, CHP, systems but of the few companies with products available along these lines, none are scaled for grid isolated single home use.

I know that there are greener energy sources, but a full disconnect from the power grid would impose the basic requirement of continual power generation. Solar PV and Wind can not meet this requirement.

I can green the system by deriving gas based fuels through methane biogas production, gassification of wood and other cellulosic biomass, ethanol production, and later installation of PV and wind supplemental power.

One route to consider would be to build my own generator system by buying and restoring an antique oil field hit-and-miss stationary engine. I would appreciate any information from people experienced with hit-and-miss stationary engine restoration and operation.

Thank you in advance.

Ike is another good reason for PickensPlan: Hurricane could cause a revivial of $4.00 a gallon gasoline for some parts or all of the country. see my page for the full story. keith sanderson

Dear Pickens Plan friends and members. Partisan politics and lobbyist efforts are slowing down the progress of Pickens Plan and Alternative energy. We need to stand united in our call for a comprehensive energy policy that includes the entire spectrum of alternative, renewable and clean energy sources as well as drilling for oil and natural gas wherever it’s available in our country.

THE OIL COMPANIES ARE LOBBYING TO KILL THIS BILL
Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide tax incentives for the production of renewable energy and energy conservation.

Open Congress Summary:
This bill would repeal roughly $18 billion in manufacturing tax credits for oil and gas companies while extending and increasing tax credits for a wide range of renewable energy programs. It is expected to cause a contentious debate in the Senate, where its chances of being approved are uncertain.

The oil companies made record profits while gasoline prices were the highest ever, they don’t need our taxpayer money too.

Mr. Pickens is pleased to visit Salt Lake City, UT to discuss the Pickens Plan. The Pickens Plan addresses the single biggest crisis facing America today: the growing and dangerous dependence on foreign oil. This will be the ninth Town Hall Meeting in a series being held across the country since the Pickens Plan launched on July 8.

I you want to be among the first to get a link to "Take This Oil and Shove It."join my group USA Energy Independence, or become my friend.

"Take This Oil and Shove It," carries a serious message, but we think will you will find the song humorous, yet help raise awareness of the need for USA Energy Independence through reducing our addiction to offshore oil.

The lyrics of "Take This Oil and Shove It".were written by me. The song is sung by a Chicago Group called "The Pickled Beats." The music was professionally arranged and recorded. The video is You Tube quality.

Hi everyone!

I've been doing research into the bill S.3335. It's offically called the Jobs, Energy, Families, and Disaster Relief Act of 2008, or you probably know it as the Renewable Energy Tax Credit extension bill. Sen. Max Baucus [D, MT] is sponsoring the bill and Sen. Harry Reid [D, NV] is the Co-sponsor. I've had conversations with another member about researching the initial results of S.3335 and publishing the results on PickensPlan.com. My hopes for this research is to help you, the voter, make an informed decision of which Senators you want voted back into Congress. We all support green jobs, and we need leaders that truely represent the needs and interests of the American people. Once I publish my findings, I urge you to contact the Senators that aren't in support and pressure them to support S.3335 and push for a 20 year extension with no strings attached.

Attached is the full 18-page summary of the bill in the web link listed below. Also attached are the links from the website I'm using to look up the initial senate results, www.opencongress.org.
