65% of Idaho is federal land. How hard is it to set up wind generators on federal land? Get a desert entry so you can buy the land? I know that the BLM can charge rent but the permitting is hard. Wouldn't it be better for wind generation for a homestead type law. Of course there is the lock it away crowd for everything it seems these days. I think there could be lots of places if the BLM would let them do it.
Vast areas of this plain are locked away from development.
Much of Idaho is State Endowment lands also. That land set aside for school funding. I was involved with setting up wind anometers on state ground next to private ground that is between Idaho Falls and Boone where a huge wind farm is located now. The State wanted the development company to place turbines on state land so they also could reap the 3 to 5000 dollar lease payments. There was a few restrictions to the right of way ect. This could be a great idea for us to push for the state to actively get involved recruiting wind farm developers to use state endowment lands for this purpose.

I am a little torn by that while it good to fund the schools it would be nice to have the land transfered to the private sector. 65 % of Idaho is owned by the federal government. that is a higher percentage then Russia and they were under communism. But I suppose it no worse then taxing timber, and mining for the schools.
The process needs to be streamlined.
If you put on on blm ground then the fed get the rent. if the land is privatized then the county get to add it to their tax base. The budget in Bonneville country is 50% of the tax goes to the schools.
