Idaho, (especially eastern), is a great site for wind turbines.

check out this wind map.
The big turbines they put up east of Idaho Falls are located in class 3 area according to this map. Perhaps they have better data now that they are built.

You will notice that the higher mountain location are winder. But that also effect the view greater.

Also you need to be close to the transmission lines so you can use the power.

Heidi,
take interest in the problems they are having with the new turbine project they want to install in Wolverine canyon east of Shelly. Some high dollar land owners are putting the skids on the project because they do not like the look. Look for remote sites that are close to big power lines.
Now they have already installed a bunch of turbines east of idaho Falls. It takes some getting used to for some people used to not seeing anything on the hillside.

At the moment I have my hands full, but I'll do my best to spread awareness. I am moving to Moscow, ID soon because I am attending the University of Idaho. My idea right now is that I could start an 'Alternative Energy Awareness Group' but that will have to wait until I get there (which will be August 21). This is an exciting plan and I have faith that it is going to work. The thing that stands in our way (from what I know) is the greedy oil men who only care about their profits and not about the american people and the health of the american economy (not to mention the health of our planet). Thank god for Pickens!

Hello Idaho Residents! Jeri - Thanks for starting this group. I hope that we can come up with some great alternative power solutions with the many resources we have here.
Sun Valley is a perfect place to become the next "Solar Valley" for green energy :-) My husband and I have land north of Mackey, ID and I think that wind turbines would look great there :-)

Over on this side of the state Congressman Simpson is to busy helping INEL to see that we have already in place over 200 MW of wind with 5 local contractors getting the installation work with all but one Union signatory.Good jobs and great opportunity for land owners to make their land more valuable. Mullen Crane and Transport of Soda Springs has the largest cranes in the NW US for setting large Turbines. Your idea of a Initiative could go far in getting Idahoian's off the glome and dome energy bandwagon that wants more oil.

Thank you for starting this site. I am very interested in seeing how alternative energy ideas develop across the country. Please include me on your updates and notices. I wish you much success. We are listed on the Pickens Plan as Mariah Power. http://www.push.pickensplan.com/group/mariahpower
