It is great to see the numbers growing.
I am in Columbus and will be facilitating a high school class this year on Oil, conservation, the next energy sources, environmental stewardship and what technologies are at hand to insure safe production of oil in sensitive environments.
We intend to post findings on a site we will develop.
We are hoping to get other schools interested also.
In the spring, a few folks are planning a 2 month trip across ANWR, to see what is really there, hoping to get permission to exit out through Prudoe Bay .
Since this effort is already in motion, we are open to modifying the project to include added value as we come across it.
I believe I just did yesterday.
I work full time in the Natural gas world, as a pipeline technician, but would be will ing to fit visits to state government into my schedule.

In a state like Ohio where manufacturing jobs have eroded consistently over the last 20 years, it makes sense to take a leadership position in alternative energy. How can we educate and energize our local political leaders to attract this type of investment?

We must push for more alternative energies in our country, state and home town.
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Very-High-Temperature_Reactor that byproduct is clean hydrogen.

I'm not much of a leader but I want to be involved and help out any way I can. What a wonderful plan T Boone has.

I just drove through Kansas. There are more than 16 miles of wind turbines on the north side of I-70. Where are they in Ohio? and why not?

Ohio's wind potential map:

It seems to me that groups of people need to start contacting their local, state, and federal representatives. Sometimes it can be the straw that breaks the camel's back - especially in these times.

I'm in the environmental industry. Holler at me with any plan ideas. I'm brewing on a few myself, and will let you guys know of any light bulbs.

The most influential, immediate impact you can have at the local scale is to conserve, conserve, conserve.
