Hi Mike, Great topic! We are trying to help out the trucking industry with solar energy management systems large and small and other cab comfort item with not much success yet. We are looking into other mobile industries and offering smaller more portable power systems and all looking into residential small solar battery systems. We are offering real solutions that can help right now offset the use of oil and on-grid power. We just need some money from some investors to help us just start our projects and marketing system.
Cheers! Wayne

an interesting thing to consider with the mass production of lithium batteries is what this will do to the price of lithium...

The mileage would depend on what components are used. The Electrical EV mileage would increase with their plug-in application. Their storage batteries would be depleted somewhat because it can be used to operate industrial equipment exterior to the truck when needed so, it would depend on application and use. I don’t know what weight is added but it would be minimal because the combustion diesel engine wouldn’t have to be as large. The combined HP of the combustion engine and the electric motor would be close to that of a single combustion diesel engine. I have attached another fact sheet for your review.

Hi Richard, cool stuff. Nothing wrong with hybrids. 70% savings is impressive. Do you know what kind of range these vehicles have and what kind of weight these systems add to the vehicle (if any)?

I retired from Eaton. They manufacture trucks and HYBRID component parts for others. They are a 15 billion dollar international company with 75,000 employees. Half of their business is automotive and the other half is electrical distribution equipment. I’ve attached couple of URLs to give you a better idea who they are. They are working closely with China with their bus and truck development. They developed a plug-in hybrid. Fed X, UPS and others are using their hybrid components. In addition, they work closely with Ford, Caterpillar, GM, DOE the Obama administration, the cities of New York, Los Angeles and many others. They are developing CNG components but have concentrated on diesel primarily because implementation and use is immediate. They have been successful in lowering consumption of diesel by 70% in vehicles using their component parts depending on what components are used; e.g., their plug-in application. This obviously lowers carbon output and helps in reducing our dependence on Middle Eastern Oil. I wish it was all about CNG but it is a beginning.

Hi Mike,
The industry, and our country as a whole, are facing unique and challenging circumstances resulting from the troubled economy. We must ALL be thinking of ways to help get ourselves back on our collective feet, and to help save our environment.

I believe in the strength of the American people, especially when we are at our best - united in common goals. Alternative energy solutions, and thinking Green, are two of our most important pursuits when protecting our home - EARTH!

I will be focusing very hard on how I might best be able to contribute to these efforts. There is a lot of power in the collective energies and talents starting to form, by the participants of this group. Thank you, so much, for initiating it!

Sincerely,
Dennis Dearborne
