I don't have an idea to patent at this point, but I do have an opportunity to save significant energy. I operate a poultry farm, we purchase large amounts of propane to heat our 20,000 sq/ft houses. I need information about setting up methane production plants using chicken litter for fuel. For those of you not familiar withthis undustry imagine saving 4,000 gallons of propane per year for every poultry house you see as you drive through the country.

I recently submitted this idea in NASA's "Design the Future" contest. It is for a refrigeration/air conditioning system that uses no Freon or other pressurized gasses, no evaporating liquids, and no electricity. Any source of rotational mechanical energy will operate the device. It is based on a little known phenomena called "Thermoelasticity" For a closer look check out the contest entry at

Terrific idea for a group!
Pulling together the normally disparate elements of capital and creativity can create some truly powerful synergy. My main concern, however, is that everyone involved wins. Since my product ideas tend to be clever technological applications using off the shelf hardware, just about any capitalists can take the opportunity and run.

My question is: How can idea people be rewarded for throwing their ideas out here?

Great idea and awesome group Michael!
I have been involved with a Grass-Roots Movement to bring solar power to the masses for almost 2-years. The cool thing is that almost 32,000 people have shown they want our product before it has even been manufactured and have signed up wanting to take advantage of our solution. The only thing needed to take off is more funding.

Michael, this is a great idea, provided there is a disclaimer that
any ideas are not to be userped from their submitter. The idea of new technology is great, but when it comes to prototypes and possible veasibility, the real winners will be those that have the capital to create and write the patents, and if you are one of the many that do not have the money, but have the idea, someone else will be taking your idea and cashing in at your expense.
Be certain you know you can safeguard your idea before you submit it, even in this friendly and casual environment, the potential for abuse is likely, not just possible. This is a commercial site, which means, good intentions are often met with disappointment, when someone else does succeed and you have nothing for providing the IC(Intellectual Capital) they needed to make their plans work. But, go ahead and display patented information. We need to know where we can get it if we ever get the chance to start business. I am also a member of the Solar group. We urge you to visit us.
