All - Me again. The pragmatic solution lies in being able to present working prototypes of copious, cheap, green Renewable Energy (RE) systems, combined with high efficiency water "relief" systems (purification, desalination, decontamination..) to parties with the wherewithall to install. (Beta test first). Words, and good intentions alone will not turn the page. Ironically, we are at the tipping point, where Renewable Energy systems can replace Fossil Fuel systems at a fraction their costs. RE systems are scalable, and can include millions of off-grid sites, akin to microeconomics (and costing about the same), to present a widespread solution to most of the planets underserved. When you provide energy power to the people, you also elevate their GDP, including their educational status. That, threatens the status quo. To be accomplished takes communications with those in a position to help. Pickens is showing that RE from a business standpoint makes economic sense. He is at the beginning of the paradigm shift. And - there are solutions a multiple of his plan's universality and potency. Looking forward to positive responses.

All: I am glad to see that one of the most important applications of copious, cheap, green renewable energy is for water applications: potable, irrigation, human uses/consumption, industry, ,, sewage treatment. Water uses can be powered by RE (renewable energy) directly e.g., providing electricity to reverse osmosis plants, and/or a number of other modes. These other modes provide a higher efficiency converting the raw energy stock (e.g., solar thermal, wind) to the deliverable, e.g., water. It is doable. The problem in the energy crises, which should include societal essentials such as water, is the vested interests, who are aversed to permitting new enterprises to encrouch on what they see as their business interests. Make no mistake, even though Energy is a $10 Trillion market, water is also a large market, and often intertwined with geopolitical interests. FYI there are also a class of solution – which is interim, e.g., activated carbon filled straws that enable directly drinking non potable watered. Do not expect sponsorship, even when solutions are known, and are cheap..

The ultimate solution lies is being able to commercialize high efficiency RE systems using wind, solar thermal, geothermal (primary, maybe add wave/ riparian /tidal flows) – which exist, to produce “cheap” energy. That, would be a paradigm shift. That is what my company is engaged in doing. E.g., we have Wind Turbines that can produce wind energy 2X as cost effectively as what Pickens is purchasing. And, a high efficiency engine, that would get 150 MPG using CNG (Compressed natural gas, given equivalent BTU’s per gallon of diesel). The real politic of the situation is that – few companies want their products to become legacy products. But, that is what happens when you introduce a technological solution -- technology is disruptive. I am open to suggestions. For example, I’ve been trying to contact Pickens or an executive of his directly. To date its been impossible, only a one-way interaction. . There’s another entire set of folks with the wherewithal to effect the world’s needs constructively, but they are guarded by their minions. Check out the $billions spent of Solar Thermal, and who paid for the bill. Then realize, their first Solar Thermal farms (also called CSP) were doomed from the get-go, too inefficient, poorly designed. The sun is a periodical power source, and unless the temperature differentials extracted to supply energy is high (e.g., over 400F), your efficiency will be too low to be economic.
